Model Buildings provides delightfully spacious two bedroomed self catering holiday accommodation in the beautiful village of Rothbury. This ground floor self contained flat, built in natural sandstone by Lord Armstrong of Cragside in the 1870s, features in the village trail leaflet as "state of the art" workers' housing of the time.
The cottage is tucked away down a quiet path, yet is very convenient for the village centre and shops, which are within a couple of minutes walk. It is less than a hundred metres to the River Coquet and some beautiful riverside walks, and there is also a children's play area here by the river with a picnic area.
Rothbury itself nestles at the foot of the Simonside and Lordenshaw Hills. It is set in beautiful countryside on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, and is an ideal spot for both walkers and cyclists. The famous Northumberland Heritage Coastline is less than thirty minutes drive. There are good amenities in the village, including a selection of pubs serving food, and several tea rooms and cafes. There is also a wide selection of shops, including traditional independent ones selling a variety of products and a delicatessan specialising in fine food and local produce. The local Co-Operative is open from 8am to 10pm every day and is only a few minutes walk from the flat.
Rothbury is ideally situated for exploring Northumberland, which offers both glorious countryside and stunning beaches. Cragside House, with its now reopened famous iron bridge and extensive grounds, is less than ten minutes drive and is a perfect day out for all ages. There are many walks directly from the flat, both by the river and into the hills and moorland, where red squirrels and other wildlife can be seen. The unspoilt Northumberland National Park is a short drive away, where further walks are possible.
Alnwick, with its famous castle and gardens (twenty minutes drive), Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne are all easily accessible, and the vast expanse of beaches on the Heritage coastline are less than thirty minutes drive away.
Further afield, Hadrian's Wall, the Scottish Borders and Newcastle are fascinating day trips, or you may prefer to just relax in Rothbury and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
