Situated within Milden Hall's 500-acre working farm near historic Lavenham in Suffolk, the Old Brooder is a versatile venue for large and smaller groups. The Hawkins family have nurtured this working farm for seven generations and are passionate hosts who enjoy sharing the magic of their corner of rural Suffolk. The Old Brooder has played host to everything from WWII school trips to music masterclasses, inspiring writers’ retreats, and joyful celebrations. The owners are brimming with ideas and local contacts to help you organise your perfect stay. Grab one of the 22 adult road bikes and discover the charming quiet lanes around Lavenham and its picturesque villages. Enjoy garden games like badminton, table tennis, croquet, and boules, or enjoy the tennis facilities on the farm. Build dens, host delightful picnics, or consider hiring an instructor for a dance, Pilates, or yoga session.
It's easy to hire a boat, kayak, or canoe and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the River Stour. Thrill-seekers can visit Go Ape in Thetford Forest for high ropes, mountain biking trails, and activities suitable for all ages. You can also arrange clay shooting locally, and archery for a taste of adventure. The Old Brooder has all modern comforts and conveniences combined with unique features like joiner-made oak bunkbeds, a dining table made from local elm, and centuries-old stained glass.

Shepherd's Hut: Staying in the (heated) Victorian Shepherd's Hut is a real treat. It has two single beds (one 6'4" long and one 5'4" long), and is just outside the back door.
Outside: The garden has a barbecue (BYO charcoal), picnic benches, lawn, garden games including croquet, table tennis and table football. There's a gorgeous view over the fields, and a herb garden you are welcome to use for cooking and cocktails.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi and bed linen are included when you stay at The Old Brooder. Guests can explore the farm via waymarked nature trails, or borrow the road bikes to explore the surrounding villages on quiet country lanes. The modern kitchen is well kitted out for cooking a feast. No smoking or pets.
