Orchard Cottage is situated in the lovely hamlet of Strefford in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape (formerly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The cottage, set within extensive grounds and with tranquil views, is a delightful, comfortable and tastefully furnished holiday cottage, maintained to nationally recognized 4-star standards. It has its own garden of approximately half an acre, and there are lovely walks and cycle rides direct from the front door. A wide variety of pubs and restaurants in the surrounding neighbourhood offer excellent food.
The cottage has two bedrooms, one double, one twin, a comfortable and homely lounge, complete with log burner, fully equipped kitchen/dining area and patio overlooking the cottage garden and Wenlock Edge. Assistance dogs are always welcome, but the owners regret that they are unable to accept pets.
Despite its tranquil location, Orchard Cottage is conveniently situated for easy access to nearby market towns and local amenities. Just 10 minutes by car from Church Stretton, 15 minutes from Ludlow and 30 minutes from Shrewsbury, it is within easy reach of Shropshire’s many tourist attractions and places of historical interest. The market town of Church Stretton, referred to by the Victorians as “Little Switzerland”, is an ideal starting point for walkers and cyclists alike to explore the Carding Mill Valley and the Long Mynd. Church Stretton Golf Club, with its breath-taking views, is the second highest golf course in England and welcomes visitors, whilst Midland Gliding Club, one of the oldest gliding clubs in the UK, has its airfield on top of the Long Mynd, amidst the beautiful scenery of the South Shropshire Hills. Ludlow, with its Norman castle, is a busy market town with spectacular black and white timber buildings and a justified reputation for its gastronomic excellence. Apart from its shopping facilities, Shrewsbury offers a wealth of charm, with its castle, cobbled streets and timbered Tudor housing, as well as river cruises along the Severn.
The Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its famous iron bridge and ten Ironbridge Gorge Museums, offers something for everyone. A visit to Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (re-opening in Spring 2025) and Stokesay Castle, both within 10 minutes’ drive of Orchard Cottage, are also well worth a visit. Located in the Welsh Marches, Orchard Cottage offers the opportunity for guests to visit either South or North Wales, including the southern part of the Snowdonia (Eryri) National Park; trips which can be undertaken in less than 2 hours by car. Finally, for those who seek the bright lights, shops and city amenities, Birmingham is easily accessible by either car or rail.
Whatever the season, you will find Orchard Cottage the ideal holiday base to explore the beautiful county of Shropshire.

Whilst children are welcome, we do not recommend Orchard Cottage for those under five years of age. Steep stairs, lack of space for a cot & the hazards of a large unfenced garden make the property unsuitable for small children.
