Middle Lodge puts you right in the heart of Perthshire and the Highlands, providing a superb standard of accommodation in a traditional Scottish house. Once the home of the Head Keeper of the Castle Menzies estate, Middle Lodge enjoys a peaceful location set well back from a quiet road on what was once the driveway to the main house. Middle Lodge sleeps six guests in three bedrooms, two of which can be set up either as super king-size or twin rooms, and is ideal for couples, families and friends.
Although Middle Lodge is well equipped for self-catering, it is less than a mile from Aileen Chraggan Hotel, and under two miles from Aberfeldy where there are several excellent pubs and cafes, including The Fountain and The Black Watch. It is close to Loch Tay, and there is an abundance of excellent fresh produce to be found in the shops and restaurants in the area. Aberfeldy is home to the Dewar's Distillery and is a favourite starting point for walkers, mountain bikers, and people who want a Highland safari.
Robert Burns, the Scottish poet beloved worldwide for the beauty of his words, visited Loch Tay in 1787 and the landscape he depicted remains virtually unchanged. If walking is too slow for your taste, you can explore the Highland countryside by bicycle or on horseback. Tay Forest Park has some wonderful footpaths that lead through towering forests to unforgettable views, while a walk through the Aberfeldy Birks is lovely, especially after rainfall when the waterfalls flow so impressively.
The Scottish Highlands has a rich and fascinating history as full of conflict as it is of culture. Castle Menzies was restored from a ruin in 1957 and is an excellent attraction where you can learn more about clan life. The Scottish Crannog Centre has some fantastic displays, and you can also visit Blair Castle and Drummond Castle. Middle Lodge is around an hour's drive from Perth, and around two hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh. It is the ideal place to stay for a truly magical Highland holiday.
