Calico Cottage enjoys a peaceful position between the Edale and Hope Valleys, surrounded by open access land that makes stepping straight into the landscape wonderfully easy. Sleeping two, it’s well suited to couples who enjoy walking by day and returning to a calm, comfortable place in the evening. The Cheshire Cheese pub is within walking distance (0.5 Mile). Surrounded by stunning scenery, the cottage feels quietly settled — a place where days naturally slow to the pace of the surroundings.
Hope village sits just along the valley and offers a good mix of practical shops and places to eat, including a deli/sandwich shop, butchers and farm shop and several cafés and pubs. Its long history is still visible in the 14th-century church and traditional stone buildings around the village. Castleton lies nearby and draws visitors for its show caverns, including the Blue John Cavern, where the distinctive gemstone is still mined today. Above the village, Peveril Castle commands views across the valley, while Edale provides a lively walking hub and the start of the Pennine Way.
There are plenty of great walks you can start right from Calico cottage. The Great Ridge, which runs between Mam Tor and Lose Hill, is a local favourite and offers stunning views and lots of open space. Winnats Pass is nearby and has dramatic limestone scenery. For longer outings, you can visit Ladybower Reservoir, Padley Gorge, or Stanage Edge. Hathersage is also close and has cafés, independent shops, and an outdoor heated swimming pool, making it a nice place to visit during your stay.

There’s a private seating area with steps leading to another terrace and views of Win Hill. You can use part of the shared main garden, which has a shared summerhouse. The cottage is surrounded by pasture and woodland, with National Trust land next door. There’s off-street parking for 2 cars and covered bike storage.
Additional Information
The cottage has underfloor heating throughout and a wood-burner. Ultrafast broadband is included. All bed linen and bath towels are provided. The property is for two adults only and does not allow dogs. Smoking, vaping, and e-cigarettes are strictly not permitted anywhere on the property or grounds.
