Pencraig Court is magnificent. Set against a backdrop of rolling countryside with views of the River Wye, the Georgian beauty is between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye on the Welsh/English border. The big holiday home sleeps 36 people in 11 ensuite bedrooms with the option of using an attached 3-bedroom cottage to increase accommodation to 42. It was run as a private hotel before the current owners transformed it into a self-catering property and retains a country house elegance that befits a house of this stature. It's ideal for hosting wedding parties, family reunions, milestone celebrations, hen and stag weekends, wellness retreats, and corporate events.
Ross-on-Wye is just four miles and less than a ten-minute drive from Pencraig Court. The vibrant market town inspired William Gilpin to write the first guidebook for the UK, starting a trend for tourism that is as strong today as ever. Explore by boat along the River Wye, the way Gilpin did, or follow the footpath that meanders beside the flowing water. The town has an excellent array of independent businesses and twice-weekly markets every Thursday and Saturday. Seven miles south, Monmouth is another historic town just over the border in Wales. It also has a wide variety of independent and High Street businesses and boasts the only remaining fortified bridge in the country. Unlike Ross, which is on the Wye, Monmouth sits beside the River Monnow.
The Welsh Borders is a popular area for walking and cycling, with lots of routes to suit every ability, including those in Symonds Yat and the Forest of Dean. You're within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains, with even more routes. It's also excellent for golf, fishing and country pursuits like horse riding and clay shooting. Adventurous souls can go gorge walking, climbing, caving, and kayaking. Fortifications were a must-have during times of strife. These times have passed, but the legacy remains at Goodrich, Grosmont, Skenfrith, and White Castle.
Pencraig Court is a substantial holiday home where you and your guests can stay in comfort. It's well-equipped for group self-catering but also suits those who prefer to hire an external caterer to keep everyone fed and happy. There are lots of options for activities and day trips in all seasons, making it easy to plan a stay to suit everyone.
