About Monnington House, Garden Cottage and the Cider Mil

Monnington House, Garden Cottage and Cider Mill are lovely holiday houses in a rural location, eight miles from Hereford, twelve miles from Hay on Wye and within easy reach of the Wye Valley. It's a beautiful spot for a holiday with family or friends, especially if you love walking, cycling, fishing or playing golf. The properties sleeps twenty four people in twelve bedrooms with twelve bathrooms, with Monnington House sleeping eighteen and The Cider Mill sleeping six. Guests have use of the extensive grounds and gardens of 3 acres, playing field, games room and table tennis room.

You'll want your wellies for a holiday at Monnington House, as there are gorgeous walks from the front door. Guests can also bring their bikes and make good use of the excellent cycling routes. The properties are in the quiet hamlet of Monnington-on-Wye, a few miles from both the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley, so you won't run out of places to explore. In addition to walking and cycling, there are plentiful opportunities for fishing and canoeing on the River Wye, golfing and horse riding, as well as country pursuits like clay pigeon shooting. For the more adventurous, there is climbing, caving and gorge walking.

The lovely city of Hereford, with its gorgeous cathedral, museums, shops and restaurants, is only a few miles from Monnington House. You can also go antiquing in Leominster, fine dining and browsing Ludlow's independent shops in the town's centuries-old black-and-white timber buildings, pottering around local markets in places like Ross-on-Wye, or spending a leisurely few hours in Hay-on-Wye's plentiful bookshops. The region has a full calendar of events that include food, music and literary festivals, and agricultural shows.

Accommodation at Monnington House is split between two different properties - Monnington House and Garden Cottage, and The Cider Mill. The charming cottages are furnished to a high standard, earning it a 5-Star rating from Visit England.

Monnington House

Downstairs:

  • Welcoming entrance hall with underfloor heating and space to leave your bags until you are ready to unpack. Doors from the hallway lead into multiple reception rooms.
  • Elegant sitting room with three large sofas, a TV and a fireplace with a wood-burning stove.
  • Drawing room with more comfortable seating, a second fireplace with a wood-burning stove, antique furniture and a card table. Multi-aspect windows look out onto the gardens.
  • Snug with relaxed seating, a fireplace with a log burner, a TV, and shelves full of books.
  • South-facing dining room with a long table that easily seats 12-18 people or 24 by prior arrangement. A wall of windows frame lovely views, and doors open straight into the garden.
  • Fantastic kitchen well-equipped for self-catering or external caterers, if you'd rather get someone else in to cook for you. There are two ovens, a four-door AGA, and two dishwashers, as well as plenty of crockery, glassware and cutlery. The practical island is a social and a practical feature - guests will naturally gravitate here to chat as they cook. The larder provides extra storage space for food.
  • Cloakroom with a WC and handbasin.
  • Utility room with laundry and cleaning facilities.
  • Boot room with space to store boots, wellies and games. It's big enough for dog beds, and there are two dog crates for guests who bring dogs.

First Floor

  • All bedrooms have picturesque garden views. All beds are made up using 400 thread count Egyptian cotton linen with luxurious blankets and throws. They have antique furnishings that suit the property's age and provide storage space.
  • Three bedrooms on this level have zip and link super king-sized beds that can be separated into two single beds. Please let the owner know your required layout when booking. One bedroom is a permanent twin.
  • All four rooms on this first floor have beautiful ensuites with showers and baths.


Second Floor

  • The bedrooms on the second floor are of the same superb standard as those downstairs.
  • Superking/twin room with an adjacent bathroom.
  • Twin bedroom with an ensuite.

Garden Cottage

Downstairs:

  • Welcoming living/dining room with solid wood flooring and a fireplace with a flame-effect electric fire. Glass doors frame garden and orchard views and open onto the terrace. The dining table seats eight people. Soft throws and cushions in muted tones complement wooden furniture and add to the rustic, country feel.
  • Gorgeous kitchen with oak cabinets and countertops, underfloor heating, and a breakfast table that seats two. Appliances include a tall fridge/freezer and a dishwasher.
  • Laundry cupboard with washing machine, dryer and basin
  • Twin bedroom with an M1 rating that is suitable for guests with limited mobility. It has two single beds that can be joined together to create a super-king size bed, depending on your requirements. The ensuite has a shower, WC and a handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with a super-king/twin beds, a chest of drawers, and French doors that open onto the Juliet balcony with views of the playing fields and garden. All beds are made up with high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. Bath towels are provided.
  • Bathroom adjacent to the master bedroom with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Third bedroom, this one with a westerly aspect and more beautiful views. It is set up as a twin room with two single beds. These can be joined together to create a super-king if preferred. Please let the owner know your required layout when booking.
  • En suite bathroom with bath, wc and basin

The Cider Mill

  • Open plan living/dining room and kitchen with a vaulted ceiling and solid beams. There are windows on two sides, including French doors opening onto the patio, that accentuates the sense of light and space. The seating area has two sofas, a flame-effect fire, and a TV. The dining table has six upholstered chairs.
  • Fitted kitchen well-equipped for self-catering with utensils and appliances. Cream cupboards and wood worksurfaces coordinate with the rest of the space for a relaxed, cohesive effect that is as calming as it is stylish.
  • Three bedrooms, each with super-kingsize zip and link beds that can be separated into two 3ft-wide single beds if preferred. All bedrooms are ensuite, having a shower, WC and a handbasin. Beds are made up for guests arrival using high-quality Egyptian cotton bed linen. Towels are also provided.
  • Cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin.
  • Timber framed outbuilding with washer, dryer and overflow fridge

Outside: Monnington House, Garden Cottage and the Cider Mill sits in almost three acres of carefully maintained gardens with level lawned areas for playing games, and bushes and mature trees for making dens and imaginative play. Guests also have the use of a separate field with football nets where children can play and the use of a games room with pool table and table football, and a rustic table tennis room. There are two terraces - one south-facing with a barbecue and seating for up to 20 people, and the other more sheltered with views of the orchard and playing field. The house has parking for 10 cars. The outbuildings at Monnington House house the games room with pool table and table football and the table tennis room.
