Mangersta Steading’s view has a habit of stopping you in your tracks. From the moment you walk into the artist designed house, your eyes are drawn through the large south-facing windows towards the Atlantic, where sea cliffs, rolling waves and distant islands create a landscape that's never quite the same twice. This beautifully designed holiday cottage sleeps two guests and sits within an active working croft (small farm) on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. Inside, bespoke cabinetry, original artwork and carefully chosen natural materials give the space a quiet confidence, while the open-plan living area feels bright whatever the weather is doing outside. When evening arrives, the sofa becomes the best seat in the house as the last light slips across the ocean.
Life moves gently in Mangersta. The beach is only five minutes away on foot, and walking routes begin directly from the cottage, weaving across moorland, cliffs and wide open coastline where sea eagles, ravens and red deer are regular sightings. Crofting activity changes with the seasons, adding another layer to a landscape that remains deeply shaped by island life. In spring, the air is filled with the calls of Blackface ewes and their lambs, while summer brings the arrival of new calves. As autumn approaches, the small herd of cattle ranges widely across the common grazings, and in winter the adjacent cow barn at Mangersta Steading provides shelter and a warm place for feeding. Guests can enjoy an authentic glimpse of crofting life throughout the year, with each season offering something different to experience. Although the setting feels wonderfully peaceful, you're well placed for exploring the wider Uig peninsula. Walk to the Mangersta Sea Stacks in half an hour, or the Mangersta Bothy in 15 minutes. The community shop is around five miles away for groceries and fuel, while Uig Sands Restaurant (10 minutes by car) has earned an excellent reputation for local seafood served with panoramic views across the bay.
There's plenty to tempt you further afield too. Boat trips explore Loch Roag and the Flannan Isles, the Callanish Standing Stones are 45 minutes by car, and a drive into Harris opens up another spectacular stretch of coastline. Yet many guests find themselves slowing down after a day or two, lingering over breakfast, watching weather fronts sweep in from the Atlantic or reaching for the binoculars to spot wildlife from the comfort of the sitting room. Sometimes that's all the itinerary you need.

Outside: Step outside onto the private seating area to enjoy breathtaking views across croft pastures towards the Lewis and Harris Hills and the Atlantic Ocean. There is parking next to the cottage.
