The capital city of St Peter’s Port has a distinctly Mediterranean vibe. Blended with quintessential old-world charm with cobbled streets and set against a bustling harbour of fishing boats and yachts, it provides an idyllic setting for all. From here you can walk along the coastal path to the pretty beach at Fermain Bay. The crystal clear waters are likely to tempt you for a swim, whilst the crab sandwiches and cold beers at the Fermain Bay Beach Café will also lure you in, before heading back on the pleasant walk to St Peter’s Port.
Just a short walk from the centre of town, you can’t miss the impressive 800-year-old Castle Cornet. With five museums, four historic gardens, guided tours and a daily firing of the gun by scarlet-clad gunners, the Castle is a fascinating day out for all the family. Head back to the harbour for a waterfront drink or ice cream before browsing the galleries, shops and mouth-watering eateries.
Guernsey is also a great starting point to explore the smaller islands of Sark, Herm, Alderney and Lihou. Catch one of the regular ferries, or if you time it right you can cross the causeway to Lihou at low tide. Pack a picnic and spend the day exploring this tiny but beautiful island which is also Guernsey's first RAMSAR wetland site and marine reserve. Take a dip in the Venus Pool – a huge natural rockpool - visit the old Priory and keep your eye out for the 150 different species of birds.
