About High Hanger

Hartshanger is an Edwardian gentleman's residence sitting in an elevated position above Porlock village in the very heart of Exmoor National Park. Both the coach house and top floor within the main house have been converted to provide comfortable holiday accommodation that still retains original character with beams, patchwork quilts on the beds and sloping ceilings. Nestling within extensive grounds of some five acres, Hartshanger affords superb views across the fields to Porlock Bay and beyond towards Wales.

A peaceful retreat from which to relax and unwind, the only sounds that will disturb you are the waves as they break on the beach below, the cry of the gulls flying up above, or the occasional sheep, cow or buzzard. Hartshanger is an ideal place for those looking for a seaside retreat where you can escape the hustle and bustle of modern living and immerse yourself in glorious countryside - perfect for relaxing and walking! For those who like to keep active whilst on holiday, there is on-site tennis, along with fishing (sea and river), pony trekking, cycling and mountain biking nearby. There is also a shop for stocking up on provisions, along with a pub and restaurant for meals out within just a five minute walk.

Porlock is a vibrant attractive village with a friendly feel and warm welcome. There is always something going on and the area offers a host of attractions to suit all ages and energy levels.

Hartshanger Holidays offers a choice of two holiday apartments. High Hanger is on the second floor (formerly the servants quarters) and accommodates four guests in one double and one twin bedroom; and Little Hanger (located in the old coach house) which sleeps five in three bedrooms (two doubles and one single + cot).

Location (Exmoor)

High Hanger is a second floor flat with its own private entrance of stone steps leading up to the entrance door at first floor level. Once inside, an additional set of stairs lead up to the second floor where you will find the accommodation. High Hanger is a beautiful flat, the photographs do not do it justice. The sitting room (often referred to as the garden room) is a lovely place to sit (particularly in inclement weather) and admire the views that take in the Bristol Channel and beyond to Wales. The view from the roof is even better and is a great place for sun bathing away from prying eyes! The flat has exposed beams in almost every room (but not low enough to knock yourself out on!) and the double room has an unusual painted ceiling complete with black cat and doves.

Accommodation comprises:

  • Double bedroom with its own hand basin.
  • Twin bedroom with sea view through a 'port-hole' window.
  • Big bathroom with roll-top bath (including a shower mixer) and wash stand.
  • Separate cloak room with WC and hand basin.
  • Shower room.
  • Sitting room with patio doors leading outside to the balcony where you can sit out (outdoor furniture provided).
  • A ladder takes you up to the roof terrace - the perfect place to relax in the sun with loungers.
  • Kitchen/dining room/lounge equipped for relaxing, cooking and dining with seating for four, dining table/chairs, large sofa and kitchen area with electric hob and microwave oven.
  • Communal laundry room in the stable yard with washing machine, tumble drier and airer.
  • There is room to store bikes and a wash down area.
