About Harbour Cottage

Harbour Cottage has some of the best views in Minehead. Built 300 years ago for the Harbour Master, it is directly opposite Minehead Harbour and has retained original features like exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace. There is room for up to six people to stay in three bedrooms, so it is perfect for families, and it is a two-minute stroll from the Old Ship Aground pub where most of the produce is grown on the owner's farm in nearby Exmoor.

Minehead has been a favourite family holiday destination for generations. Its long stretch of beach, the heritage West Somerset Railway line, and Edwardian park with bandstand offer something to delight visitors of every age - a seaside holiday never goes out of style! The typically small swell makes Minehead good for children to swim and body board, and there are other beaches nearby where you can surf, windsurf or kiteboard, depending on the conditions. Being a popular seaside resort means that Minehead caters superbly for visitors with an array of shops, places to eat and drink, and indoor entertainment if the weather is poor. A Butlins family resort is at the other end of the seafront to Harbour Cottage and it is possible to buy day tickets to use their amenities.

Exmoor National Park is close by, offering a wealth of places to climb, walk or mountain bike. The South West Coast Path starts at Minehead and stretches for 630 miles around the coast to Bournemouth. This part of the Exmoor coast is home to a diverse array of fauna and flora, including the Whitebeam trees that are only found on Exmoor.

Dunster village, with its impressive medieval architecture and castle, is nearby, as are Porlock Weir and Watchet Harbour. Exmoor Zoo is always a fun day out, or take the kids on an Exmoor Wildlife Safari where they can see red deer. Cleeve Abbey, the Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre and Tropiquaria are just three of many other nearby attractions you can enjoy during your stay.

Harbour Cottage is quirky and comfortable. Being at the quiet end of the harbour means guests can create their perfect balance of excitement and relaxation.

Location (Exmoor)

Accommodation Comprises:

Accommodation at Harbour Cottage is over three floors. The furnishings and decor have been carefully chosen to suit the age of the property while remaining comfortable and practical for today's guests.

Downstairs:

  • Cosy sitting room which is a lovely place to relax. There is a couch and two armchairs as well as a window seat from where you can sit and watch the boats on the harbour, as well as a television with a DVD player. The owners have provided a selection of books, games and information on the local area.
  • Kitchen/diner next to the living room which features everything guests need for stress-free self-catering, including a dishwasher and coffee maker. There is a good choice of cooking utensils, pots and pans, as well as ample crockery for six people.

Upstairs:

The middle and upper floors contain the bedrooms and bathrooms. All the bedrooms have windows at the front of the property and overlook the harbour.

  • Master bedroom which is a spacious double room. There is a large chest of drawers for storage, as well as a window seat, bedside tables and reading lights.
  • Both of the twin rooms are comfortably furnished with lovely harbour views. There is lots of space in each, with one having an armchair and the other a small sofa for reading. One of the twin rooms has an en-suite with WC and handbasin.
  • Enormous family bathroom with a bath, walk-in shower, WC and handbasin. It also has a window with views of the harbour, although its position on the upper floor means it is private and not overlooked. There are also laundry facilities tucked away in the bathroom.

Outside: There is a paved terrace at the front of the property with garden furniture where guests can sit and enjoy a drink in the sunshine. A free on-street parking permit for one car is provided, and there is more parking available nearby.

Additional Information: Harbour Cottage has WiFi and central heating, and all utilities, linen and towels (excluding beach towels) are provided. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior agreement from the owner and a surcharge. Short breaks are available, depending on availability. No smoking is permitted in the property.
