The Nook is so cute that you'll want to put it in your pocket and take it home. Constructed in 1750, the self-catering holiday cottage is in the picturesque Essex village of Dedham, on a quiet lane with no passing traffic. It's only a short walk from the house to the friendly Marlborough pub, cafe, and the beautiful River Stour. There is space for four people to sleep in two bedrooms, with guests loving the fantastic period features that include blackened oak beams and rooms with an unusual shape. It's a holiday rental for couples and friends planning a walking holiday in Dedham Vale and as a welcoming home-away-from-home for visitors who are in Colchester or Ipswich for business.
Dedham is in the heart of Constable Country. The sublime beauty of this tranquil corner of England inspired John Constable to create much-loved paintings. Fall in love with scenes virtually unchanged since the late 1700s and early 1800s when Constable painted them. Sir Alfred Munnings, another renowned British painter, lived in Dedham and used the landscape as the background for many of his paintings. Footpaths lead from Dedham along the River Stour and over Fen Bridge, with more popular walks around Flatford, Stoke-by-Nayland, and Stratford St Mary. You don't have to walk or cycle to appreciate the scenery - boating along the River Stour is a wonderfully gentle way to enjoy your surroundings.
Day trips from The Nook can include shopping and sightseeing in Fenwick's and the other upmarket shops in Colchester, admiring the beautiful medieval buildings in Lavenham, lunch in Sudbury, or sightseeing in Ipswich. There is a good choice of supermarkets, local markets, farm shops and food shops all within an easy drive.
The Nook is a wonderful place from which to explore Dedham Vale and the Stour Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's only half an hour from Felixstowe and the coast, giving you a wide choice of places for walking, cycling, golf, fishing, and sightseeing.
