Whatley Cottage is an enchanting period holiday home situated in an idyllic spot close to the picturesque town of Beaminster in West Dorset. As part of a gentleman’s country retreat, the cottage was once the butler’s lodge which has recently been converted into a sophisticated, yet comfortable and homely, holiday cottage. For many years the estate was the home of the local MP and has welcomed several discernible guests, including Lady and Dennis Thatcher. Whatley Cottage sleeps two guests in a beautiful bedroom and perfectly blends period features and furniture with 21st Century comforts including a modern hand painted kitchen, a wood burning stove, and a roll top bath.
Sitting amongst Dorset’s gorgeous unspoilt countryside, Whatley Cottage is an easy stroll across open fields to the town of Beaminster where you will find a selection of restaurants, traditional pubs and small independent shops. Alternatively, less than twenty minutes away you will find the bustling market town of Bridport. It is easy to stock up on local produce at one of the twice weekly markets or the fantastic delis, bakers and butchers. Make a morning of it and browse the boutique clothes shops and the retro and vintage wares in the antiques quarter. Once you have finished shopping enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of the quirky cafes or award-winning restaurants washed down with a glass of something chilled.
If you can’t resist a day by the sea you will be spoilt for choice with a number of fantastic beaches close by. West Bay, Charmouth, Lyme Regis and Seatown are all just a short drive away, whilst those willing to travel a little further afield can enjoy the iconic landmarks of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door or the traditional seaside delights and beautiful golden sandy beaches at the coastal resort of Weymouth. Head inland and you will be equally rewarded with a number of fantastic attractions such as Mapperton House and Gardens, Beaminster Museum, Monkey World at Wareham and The Tank Museum at Bovington. Alternatively lace up your walking boots and explore the Hardy Trail and Monach's Way or simply explore the miles and miles of footpaths that criss cross the beautiful Dorset countryside.
You would also be forgiven for not straying far from Whatley Cottage where you can spend lazy days picnicking in the garden or simply relaxing and unwinding in beautiful surroundings. With holiday bookings available all year round, it is always a good time to come and visit this charming part of the country.
