About Lorton House

Lorton House is incredible. The elegant Victorian country house can sleep up to 18 guests in eight luxurious bedrooms, with both the house and gardens enjoying fantastic views over fields and countryside to Weymouth Bay. It is perfect for extended families or groups of friends gathering for a relaxing holiday or celebration of a special event. The location is every bit as idyllic. Lorton House is on the edge of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and only three miles from Weymouth Beach and the town centre. It has everything you need for a wonderful self-catering holiday in Weymouth, with something to keep everyone happy no matter what season you are there.

The seaside resort of Weymouth is perfect for a lazy summer holiday. Its long stretch of sandy beach is backed by a town full of shops, cafes, pubs and other amenities. Hire a deck chair and settle back with a book and an ice-cream cone, or lace up your comfortable shoes and walk along the coastal footpath to the Isle of Portland and the iconic red-and-white stripes of Portland Bill lighthouse. Other local attractions include the SEA LIFE Adventure Park, Lodmoor RSPB Reserve, and Nothe Fort. Durdle Door is 14 miles away, and the fossils and beaches of the Jurassic Coast are also within an easy drive. The Bovington Tank Museum is fun and educational, with the possibility of a ride in a tank on certain days.

Sailing, surfing, swimming and sightseeing boat tours are all readily available, while adventurous souls can try coasteering around sheltered harbours, bays and cliffs once used by smugglers. Visitors can also enjoy golf, cycling, and horseriding. Sightsee around Dorset towns like Dorchester, Lyme Regis or Wimborne Minster; or head out into the countryside on long walks or bike rides with a pit stop at a country pub for lunch.

Lorton House is luxurious without feeling like it's trying too hard. It feels special yet relaxed and is somewhere you can unwind and have fun with family and friends.

The main house sleeps 16 guests in 8 bedrooms and the annex is available to sleep a further 2 guests for £100 per night or £500 for a week.

Accommodation Comprises:

Lorton House has high ceilings, spacious rooms and beautiful features that include original fireplaces and flooring. Accommodation is over three levels.

Downstairs:

  • Enter through a hallway designed to impress with gorgeous original tiled floor and doors leading off to the reception rooms. A passage from the hallway leads to the kitchen and breakfast room.
  • Drawing room with tall windows overlooking the sea and French doors opening onto the terrace. There are comfortable sofas where guests can sit and chat, read, or watch TV, and the open fire adds an extra warm welcome in cold weather.
  • Formal dining room with seating for 16 people and an original open fire. This room is perfect for celebrating over a special meal with your family and closest friends.
  • Library/games room with books, games and relaxed seating.
  • Huge kitchen and breakfast room with a four oven Aga, stripped pine floorboards and french windows leading to a courtyard garden. In contrast to the age of the property, the kitchen has all modern appliances, including and electric oven and a dishwasher and is well equipped with utensils, plates, glasses and everything else guests need to cook and serve meals.
  • A full-sized billiard table in the cellar will have you and your guests happily competing into the small hours.
  • A ground floor double bedroom with ensuite shower room.

Upstairs:

  • Three double bedrooms. All have original fireplaces, one within ensuite shower room and two with ensuite bathrooms.
  • One twin bedroom with original fireplace.
  • One bathroom with original roll top bath.
  • One additional WC with basin.

Top floor:

  • One double bedroom with en-suite shower room.
  • One twin bedroom with en-suite shower room
  • One further twin bedroom

Accessibility: There are 2 steps up to the front door and the house has a wheelchair ramp to fit these. There is a ground floor bedroom with en-suite shower room which has a 3 inch lip to get into the shower cubicle. 

Outside: Lorton House sits in 16 private acres of grounds that include a paved terrace with garden furniture and a barbecue, a gazebo with seating, parkland and a woodland walk. There is ample off-street parking.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are provided. A cot (with a sheet provided) is available. Smoking is not permitted. The owner is able to recommend local caterers.
