About Heddfan Cottage

Heddfan Cottage is in the beautiful village of Llansteffan. When Tom Jones sang about the green, green grass of home and Richard Llewellyn wrote about how green his valley was, they could have been describing this gentle Carmarthenshire landscape, which Dylan Thomas also immortalised in his work. The cottage started life as a simple abode but now provides a superbly comfortable stylish holiday retreat for up to four people in two bedrooms, making it ideal for couples or small families (dogs welcome!). The village store and the welcoming Castle Inn pub are both within walking distance, as is the beach and the coastal footpath.

If you are searching for a landscape that inspires, you will find it here. Llansteffan is on a peninsula where the Towy River flows into Carmarthen Bay. There are two beaches, one of which is dog-friendly all year round and the other between October and April, and miles of unspoiled coastline to enjoy via the Wales Coast Path. The panoramic views over the Tywi Estuary and Carmarthen Bay from Llansteffan Castle will take your breath away, and there is no cost to explore these impressive ruins.

Attractions convenient for Heddfan Cottage include the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and the British Bird of Prey Centre, Oakwood Theme Park, Manor Wildlife Park, and Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo. There is a clutch of speciality museums that include the West Wales Museum of Childhood, National Wool Museum, and the National Coracle Centre. You may also be interested in the Original Tin Shed Experience, a tiny museum that recreates life in a WWII shelter, and Dylan Thomas' writing shed, both of which are in nearby Laugharne.

The county town of Carmarthen is eight miles away, with an excellent variety of places to eat, drink and shop as well as a cinema, leisure centre, hospital, banks and other amenities. If you can, time your visit to coincide with the thriving twice-weekly market on Wednesday and Saturday, or the fantastic farmers' market which runs on the first Friday of the month.

West Wales is so beautiful that you can visit it in any season and have a wonderful time. Whether you're a couple escaping for a romantic break or a family wanting to ditch the screens and spend time doing something different, you'll love your time at Heddfan Cottage.
