Set on Anglesey’s unspoilt north coast, Gwendon is a welcoming, single-storey holiday cottage on the edge of Amlwch, with far-reaching views across Bull Bay and the Irish Sea. From the front windows and private balcony, the sea is a constant presence - a peaceful backdrop for slow mornings, coastal walks, and evenings watching the light fade over the water.
The cottage sleeps up to six guests in three comfortable bedrooms and is ideal for families, couples, and dog owners who appreciate space and simplicity. Dogs are welcome, and because the owners regularly holiday here themselves, Gwendon is thoughtfully equipped for relaxed self-catering stays at any time of year. When you don’t feel like cooking, the shops, cafés, take-aways and the friendly pubs are just a stroll away.
Amlwch is a small, characterful port town with a strong sense of community and a fascinating past. Once one of Wales’ most important towns thanks to the copper industry, its story is brought to life at Parys Mountain, just 5 mins by car from the cottage. In the town and port, you’ll find independent shops, cafés and coastal charm without the crowds.
Anglesey’s 140-mile coastline offers an ever-changing mix of rugged headlands and quiet sandy coves, and some of the island’s best coastal walking starts right here. Nearby highlights include the Point Lynas lighthouse at Porth Eilian, where dolphins and porpoises are often spotted, and the atmospheric brick ruins above the secluded beach at Porth Wen. Dog-friendly coves such as Porthygwychiaid are often blissfully quiet, while the pale sands of Traeth yr Ora feel wonderfully remote. Favourite local walks follow the Anglesey Coastal Path to Traeth Dynion (The Creek) and from Point Lynas down to Amlwch Port.
Thanks to the island’s compact size, you’re never far from anywhere. Day trips include Beaumaris Castle, Plas Newydd House and Gardens, Anglesey Sea Zoo, and Foel Farm Park.
Golfers are well catered for at Bull Bay Golf Club, just a mile away, with several other courses across the island and mainland. For mountain scenery, Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park lies just across the Menai Straits, with Llanberis and the Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) Mountain Railway reachable in around 45 minutes.
Gwendon is available all year round and is a great choice for guests who want coastal scenery, walk-everywhere convenience, and a more laid-back alternative to busy seaside resorts - without feeling cut off from the best of Anglesey.
