4 Church Walk is an attractive holiday cottage in Long Melford. The early Victorian property dates from 1838 and is Grade II listed to protect its heritage features. The village location could not be more ideal, being located neatly between The Black Lion Hotel and the historic Holy Trinity Church, where villagers have gathered to worship since the mid-1400s. You're also only a short stroll from the village green, which you can see from your bedroom window. It's a fantastic self-catering property for couples or solo travellers who want to feel at home while enjoying the beauty and attractions of Sudbury and the wider Suffolk area.
Although classed as a village now, Long Melford is one of Suffolk's historic Cloth Towns. Its rich history is seen not only in the quality of the church but also in its two manor houses and the charm of the shop fronts housing independent boutiques, cafes and galleries. The beauty of the setting inspired the great British artists Gainsborough and Constable to immortalise it in oils, and the location has been the backdrop for British TV shows. Stroll or cycle beside the river or around Long Melford Country Park to appreciate its beauty first-hand. Tudor Kentwell Hall and 30-acre gardens are gorgeous in all seasons. See their calendar before you visit, as there are regular Tudor-themed events and other activities to make it even more appealing.
Three miles south of Long Melford, Sudbury is a great market town with lots to offer visitors. It was settled by the Saxons and was one of the most important centres for silk and weaving in later centuries. From Sudbury, it's simple to get to Colchester and London, allowing you to explore even further than the spectacular Stour Valley. Other places to visit include Lavenham, Bury St Edmunds, and Hadleigh, or stay close to home and enjoy the breathtaking countryside for which Suffolk is famous.
