The Banking Hall carries its former life into its present incarnation as a holiday home near Falkirk. Built as a bank in 1870, this sandstone house in Brightons has a sweeping spiral staircase rising through the open-plan ground floor, giving a stay here a character that newer holiday homes struggle to replicate. It works particularly well for two couples, a family or friends who want to spend time together rather than retreat to separate rooms. Pieces collected on the owner’s travels add individuality without making the house feel formal. Upstairs are two generous king size bedrooms and two full bathrooms, one en-suite. The king size sofa bed in the lounge can take the total to six for an additional nightly charge. Downstairs, the open layout leaves plenty of space for meals, conversation and unhurried evenings. WiFi and free off-street parking are included. The Black Bull in nearby Polmont is within a mile, and Polmont station is close enough to make rail trips into Edinburgh, Glasgow or Stirling a realistic alternative to driving.
Brightons and neighbouring Polmont put everyday essentials close at hand while keeping Falkirk's bigger attractions within a short drive. Polmont station is a particular asset, with direct rail links on the Edinburgh–Glasgow line and connections towards Stirling. When nobody wants a full sightseeing day, Polmont Burn offers a local walk or cycle, while Muiravonside Country Park has woodland, riverside paths, open parkland, a play area and a demonstration farm. Falkirk adds shops, restaurants and Callendar House with its surrounding park. This location makes sense for groups trying to combine several versions of central Scotland in one break: some days can start on a train, others in walking boots, and nobody has to commit to a long drive on every outing.
Falkirk has two landmarks with genuine wow factor. The iconic Kelpies rise 30 metres above The Helix, while the Falkirk Wheel lifts boats between the Forth and Clyde and Union canals using the world's only rotating boat lift. The area's history reaches much further back at the Antonine Wall, the northernmost frontier of the entire Roman Empire, and Blackness Castle on the Firth of Forth. Stirling adds its castle, Old Town and National Wallace Monument; Edinburgh and Glasgow broaden the choice again without requiring a change of base. For guests who want a holiday that mixes engineering, history, city days, and quieter walks, The Banking Hall earns its place in the itinerary twice over: first through where it is, and again through the 1870 building waiting when you get back.
