About South Doll Farm Cottage

South Doll Farm Cottage has been adapting to family life for more than 400 years. Today it sleeps seven, but the old building still leaves clues to what came before. The kitchen occupies the former dairy parlour, an unusually shaped room that gives this renovated holiday cottage the sensation that you're truly relaxing in the countryside. It suits extended families, two generations travelling together or friends who want rural space without being cut off from central Scotland. On the ground floor, a twin and a king bedroom sit at opposite ends of the hallway and share a large shower room. The open-design lounge and dining area seats eight, so nobody is left balancing a plate on their knee. Upstairs is another king bedroom and a large single room, plus a family bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The landing has bean bags and chairs, creating a useful second hangout for younger guests. Outside, the view stretches over countryside towards the Ochil Hills and River Forth, with Dunmore just over 2 miles away.

Dunmore and Airth occupy a quieter stretch of the Forth Valley, where fields and river views replace city streets. One of the area's oddest landmarks is also one of its most memorable: the Dunmore Pineapple, an elaborate 18th-century folly rising above a walled garden in Dunmore Park that will look great in your holiday photos. Airth lies nearby, while the River Forth and the flat carse landscape give the area a spacious feel. The cottage's quiet position between Throsk and Airth means daily plans are more likely to begin with a drive than a stroll to the shops, but the trade-off is room, views and a much stronger sense of countryside. The Kincardine and Clackmannanshire bridges also put Fife within easy reach. For groups who want to spend evenings together rather than dispersing around a town, the big dining table, garden and second upstairs sitting area make good use of that rural location.

Days out can guide you in several directions from here. Falkirk has the 30-metre Kelpies at The Helix, the rotating Falkirk Wheel, Callendar House and sections of the Roman Antonine Wall. Stirling brings a different sweep of history with its castle, Old Town, National Wallace Monument and Bannockburn. Cross the Forth for Fife and stretches of the Fife Coastal Path, or use the cottage’s central position for longer days in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Families can also mix major attractions with simpler outdoor days rather than spending the whole holiday moving between ticket desks. That range is the real value of South Doll Farm Cottage. Seven people can share one house without having to agree on a single holiday style: history, city trips and engineering landmarks are all accessible, while the cottage itself gives you countryside, space and 400 years of warmth and protection to return to.

Location (Stirling)

Accommodation Comprises:

South Doll Farm Cottage sleeps seven guests over two comfortable levels, offering relaxing rural scenery and a layout that suits multi-generational families and friends.

Ground Floor

  • Living/Dining Room: Open-plan room with multiple sofas, soft carpet, and a warm neutral colour scheme that will put you at ease. The traditional farmhouse dining table seats eight guests, so no one feels squashed in on the end.
  • Kitchen: The former dairy parlour is now fitted with a fridge/freezer, electric hob, oven, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. Fitted cupboards, a ceramic butler's sink, and sleek countertops give ample space to prepare and serve meals. A smaller table in the kitchen lets you sit with your morning coffee or keep the cook company with a glass of wine.
  • Bedroom One: A large twin room with two 3 ft-wide single beds, an armchair for reading, and blackout blinds on the window so you don't wake earlier than you want to.
  • Bedroom Two: Furnished with a 5ft-wide, king-size bed, it features the same high-quality bedding and bed linen as the other bedrooms.
  • Shower Room: Serving both downstairs bedrooms, the downstairs facilities include a shower, WC and a handbasin.

First Floor

  • Bedroom Three: A second king-sized bedroom has Velux windows and matching furniture that includes a wardrobe and drawers so you can unpack and feel settled.
  • Bedroom Four: The single bedroom is another restful space with a full-sized (3ft-wide) single bed and decor suitable for guests of any age.
  • Family Bathroom: A large bathroom with a bath, separate shower, WC, and handbasin.
  • Landing: Informal chill-out area with bean bags and chairs, giving children or teenagers a second place to relax. The owners have created it to make all guests feel welcome at Doll Farm Cottage, not just the adults.

Outside
The garden looks out over open Stirlingshire countryside, with the Ochil Hills to the north and the River Forth to the east. A wicker dining table and chairs are sheltered by a parasol in sunny weather. You'll love unwinding with these views as you sip on your favourite drink. Off-street parking is available for multiple cars.

Additional Information: All utilities, bed linen, bath towels and WiFi are included. Dogs and smoking are not permitted. Due to its rural location, two miles from the nearest village, a car is recommended when staying at South Doll Farm Cottage. Short breaks and flexible changeover days may be possible outside of peak season.
