About The Cottage

The Cottage provides luxurious accommodation on a small estate in the beautiful Somerset countryside. There is ample space for a family of four, yet it is still intimate enough for a romantic couple’s break. It is only two miles from Yeovil and a short walk from the centre of East Coker, the village immortalised in TS Eliot’s poem Four Quartets, where you will find the excellent Helyar Arms, a Grade II listed 15th Century pub.

East Coker is at the geographic heart of Somerset. Within just a few miles are Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Blackdown Hills, Quantocks and Mendips. There is no better place for a holiday if you love exploring on foot or by bicycle, or even on horseback. Drive north, and you will reach the Somerset coast and beaches like Burnham on Sea, while heading south will take you to the stunning Jurassic Coast, which is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Days out near The Cottage can include a wander around the magnificent interior and grounds of Sherborne Castle, the latter of which were designed by renowned Georgian designer, Capability Brown. Somerset’s stunning countryside is more than simply a nice view - it also creates delicious cider, perry, pork and cheese, and Perry’s Cider Mills and the award-winning Lord Poulett pub are just two of several places nearby where you can sample them.

The Fleet Air Museum, Bovington Tank Museum and Haynes Motor Museum have some of the best specialist collections in England, and if engines are your thing then make sure you include the Yeovil Railway Centre on your itinerary. Wookey Hole Caves are a favourite all-weather attraction, while Taunton is good for shopping, as is Clarks Village in Street.

The Cottage is luxurious yet homely, in a location that is away from it all without being remote or hard to reach. When people say you can’t have your cake and eat it, it is safe to assume that they have not stayed here!

Location (Somerset)

The Cottage is one of two stunning self-catering properties on the estate. Although the cottages are separate and private they can, depending on availability, be hired together to sleep up to six guests.

Accommodation is all on one level, with the high standard and attention to detail that you would expect from a property that has been recognised as Four Star Gold by Visit England, including high thread count sheets and top quality bedding.

Accommodation Comprises:

  • Sitting room with two comfortable, fabric-covered sofas that can easily seat four people. The natural light from the dual aspect windows is accentuated by soft yellow walls, making it feel welcoming and relaxing regardless of the weather or the time of year.
  • Open plan kitchen/diner which is a great example of the contemporary country style with a large American-style fridge/freezer complete with ice maker, a dishwasher, and a modern oven with six-burner stove. Even reluctant cooks will find it easy to cater in this well-equipped kitchen.
  • Dining area furnished with a painted pine table and chairs for four people. Although it is open to the living room, the layout means that it is perfectly possible for parents to enjoy dinner and conversation while the kids are watching a bit of television before bedtime.
  • Master bedroom which is an elegant haven of white and soft blue toile du joy linen on the king-sized bed. Bedside tables with reading lights are a good place to pile your holiday reading, while the countryside view from the window is idyllic.
  • Second bedroom, decorated in a simple style that is suitable for either children or adults. It has two full-sized single beds and a window overlooking the pool house.
  • Family bathroom which has the air of an upmarket hotel. The deep bath has taps in the middle so guests can recline at either end, and there is a shower above it. The bathroom also has a WC and handbasin.

Outside: The pool house and games room is newly built using traditional oak crucks and beams. There are several seating areas and table football as well as a heated indoor swimming pool which is available at specific times of the day and evening. Guests have sole use of a private, terraced garden which has fantastic views of the surrounding countryside. There is secure, off-street parking.

Additional Information: The cottage has WiFi and central heating. All utilities, linen and towels (not beach towels) are included. The owners can provide a travel cot on request, but guests will need to bring cot sheets. No smoking or pets are allowed in The Cottage.
