About Swallow Barn

Swallow Barn is an extremely inviting rural holiday cottage in Somerset. Beautifully renovated to a high standard, the two-storey self-catering property boasts underfloor heating, a log burner, and a luxuriously large bedroom with a sumptuous superking-sized bed. It's in Low Ham, a pretty hamlet 16 miles from Taunton with good access to the Somerset Levels and Moors. Even closer is the tiny town of Langport and the River Parrett, meaning that you're never far from a great view or a peaceful riverside spot for fishing. Swallow Barn has been furnished and decorated with couples in mind but is also wonderfully welcoming for friends and individuals.

Low Ham is small in size but big in views, with the rolling countryside as far as you can see. The church is a Grade I listed building known as "The Church in the Field". It dates from 1620, and if you look closely, you can see the damage inflicted during the Civil War Battle of Langport in 1645. It's an area loved by walkers for the landscape's beauty and the footpaths' diversity that offer a choice for all abilities. The owners have helpfully included maps and other information in the cottage to help you plan your route. The Somerset Levels and Moors are also a favourite place for bird watchers, especially in winter when they watch breathtaking starling murmurations and the lives of thousands of other migrating birds. Take your binoculars to RSPB Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath and Westhay Moor, all of which are within a short drive or easy cycling distance of the cottage.

Easy to reach via the M4 and the M5, Somerset is a holiday destination for all seasons. Local attractions include the Hayes International Motor Museum, the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Barrington Court, Tintinhull Garden, and Montacute House. We highly recommend a wander around Langport and Somerton, as well as day trips to Glastonbury, Wookey Hole Caves, and England's smallest city of Wells.

Stress? You won't even know the meaning of the word by the time you're ready to leave! Every detail of Swallow Barn has been considered for your comfort, and you'll appreciate the care as you sleep soundly on Egyptian cotton bedlinen, enjoy a fresh pot of tea on your arrival, and soak in your private hot tub.

Location (Somerset)

Accommodation Comprises:

Swallow Barn is a beautifully presented two-storey holiday cottage in a rural location. Guests rave about the attention to detail, including wood and kindling for the log burner and bathrobes for the hot tub.

Downstairs:

  • Underfloor heating on the ground floor is popular with visiting dogs, though you will also appreciate it in cold weather. After meals at the table beside the window, you can light the log burner and settle back on the sofa to watch TV.
  • Clever design and use of materials mean the fitted kitchen fades into the background when not in use yet it includes everything you need for a self-catering stay.

Upstairs:

  • Oak stairs rise to the upper floor, where a spacious bedroom features a superking (6ft-wide) bed. There is hanging and folding storage and a wall-mounted TV.
  • An ensuite bathroom includes a power shower over the bath, WC, a hand basin, and a shaving socket.

Outside: The garden's generous size features two lawn areas: stone patios with plants and seating, and a deck with an outdoor hot tub overlooking neighbouring fields. There is off-street parking and bicycle storage. The fence is secure for dogs.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen, bath towels, and two baskets of logs for the wood burner are included (more can be purchased on site). Well-behaved dogs are welcome. Sorry, no children - babes in arms only. Smoking is not allowed and strictly no charging of electric vehicles.
