Mowbarton Barn is a dream, a genuine home from home which combines the best of all worlds. The spacious holiday home sleeps nine people in four bedrooms, two having ensuite bathrooms, and is ideal for big families, extended families, or groups of friends who are looking for comfort and convenience in a stunning location in Somerset. The owner says Mowbarton Barn is "miles from anywhere and close to everywhere". You'll find it difficult to believe you're only 20 minutes from the M5 as you sit and survey the 12 private acres and views over the Vale of Avalon. The property is in Mudgley, two miles from Wedmore and within a short drive of some of the region's most famous sights and attractions.
Mowbarton is home to a small but beautiful vineyard which produces grapes for Mowbarton Estate Somerset Sparkling Wine, an exclusive and extremely popular Brut which has been available since 2019. Making wine in Somerset is nothing new. The owners have planted grapes within sight of Glastonbury Tor, following a tradition that stretches back 800 years to the monks of Glastonbury Abbey. Mudgley also boasts a cider-making heritage: Roger Wilkins produces CAMRA award-winning cider that you can buy directly from the source, along with fresh eggs, vegetables, and local Somerset cheeses. Roger's Barn is open seven days a week and is a scenic ten-minute stroll from the barn. Man cannot live on cider alone (don't tell Roger we said that!), but you'll find a village shop two miles away in Wedmore and a Tesco and Sainsbury's five miles away in Cheddar.
Somerset has a reputation for being somewhat sleepy and laid back. Don't let the gentle beauty of the landscape fool you. While it's true that you can spend lazy days relaxing on a lounger in the barn's private walled garden or working up an appetite for a barbecue or pub lunch by rambling around the Westhay Moor Nature Reserve, there is more than enough to keep even the most adventurous spirit happy. Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole are 15-minutes from Mowbarton Barn, and you're only ten miles from the north Somerset coast and the popular resort beaches of Weston-Super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea. The Mendips are popular with mountain bikers, as are the trails around Shepton Mallet, Cranborne Chase and Exmoor. A bike hire shop in Wedmore will deliver bikes to Mowbarton Barn if you book in advance. Dry skiing and wind sports are readily accessible for something fun and different.
Glastonbury Abbey and Wells Cathedral are seven and nine miles away from the barn, and there is a wealth of beautiful houses and gardens to visit like Barrington Court, Montacute, and Lytes Cary. Further afield, but still within an hour's drive, are the historic sights of Bath, vibrant Bristol, Longleat, Yeovilton and Stonehenge. Puxton Park and Noah's Ark Zoo are great for kids.
