Coach House is an attractive holiday cottage in Somerset with spectacular views of the Mendip Hills. It is a beautifully converted coach house set within the grounds of the owner’s farmhouse and garden. The location proves that "getting away from it all" doesn't have to mean feeling isolated. You can enjoy sitting on the patio with nothing between you and panoramic views of the hills and countryside, yet be only a few miles from superb restaurants, bars and cafes. There is space for four people in two bedrooms with a layout that suits families, couples or friends. The Coach House is in the peaceful village of Henton, just over a mile from the welcoming Pheasant Inn, where the home-cooked food is as popular as the selection of local ales and ciders.
Henton is within easy reach of Wookey, a picturesque village that has, in addition to three pubs, an award-winning cafe and village shop, and a goat farm with a farm shop. Whether you dine out or shop locally for provisions, eating well is a pleasure when you stay at Coach House. A few miles away is Wookey Hole, a separate village famed for its limestone caverns that are one of Somerset's busiest attractions and ideal for a fun visit in any weather. The tiny city of Wells is a short drive or a relaxed bike ride from the cottage. Wells Cathedral and Bishops Palace are magnificent, and the city also has an excellent variety of places to eat, drink and shop. Glastonbury is only 15-minutes by car, with famous Tor and mystical links to King Arthur and Avalon.
Day trips can include going on safari at Longleat, marvelling at the longevity of Stonehenge, and shopping and sightseeing in Bath and Bristol. If it's hot and you fancy a day at the beach, the vast stretch of sand at Weston-super-Mare and the lighthouse at Burnham-on-Sea are no more than a 40-minute drive from the cottage.
Walking and cycling are two of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of the Somerset landscape. The Mendip Hills and nearby Quantock Hills and Cheddar Gorge are popular with mountain bikers, hikers and hill walkers. Leave the car at home and follow the footpaths signposted from the village. Your efforts will be rewarded with stunning views of Glastonbury Tor. Take your binoculars when you hit the Somerset Levels, where you can see egrets, herons, swans, and magical starling murmurations in early winter.
Coach House is welcoming in all seasons, with bookings available all year round.
