Cider Barrel Cottage is a former farm building given a new lease of life as a comfortable self-catering holiday cottage in Somerset (available to rent from April to October). There is space for up to four people to sleep in two bedrooms with lots of indoor and outdoor areas for couples and families to enjoy. The beautiful countryside setting and mature gardens, which include access to a four-acre apple orchard, offer peace and tranquillity. Guests who like their scrumpy on tap will be pleased to know there are two pubs - the Rodney Stoke Inn and the Strawberry Special - less than a mile's walk from the door.
Somerset is a beautiful county with lots to offer in all seasons. Cider Barrel Cottage is within walking distance of the Rodney Stoke Reserve and the western border of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, putting beautiful footpaths and cycling routes within easy reach. The vast expanse of countryside supports not only the production of delicious local produce but also an abundance of birds and wildlife that includes badgers, swans, buzzards and butterflies.
A day at the beach is as easy as driving to Brean, Burnham, Weston-Super-Mare and Clevedon, all of which are between 15 and 20 miles of the cottage. Family-friendly attractions include Longleat House and Safari Park, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole, Glastonbury Tor, Haynes Motor Museum, several National and RSPB Nature Reserves and the Fleet Air Arm Museum. Bristol and Bath are both under an hour's drive away, offering a wealth of city attractions as well as places to eat and drink, and guests can drive to Stonehenge World Heritage site in just over an hour.
Cider Barrel Cottage is also well placed for exploring the interesting villages and towns of the area including Axbridge with its ancient village square and National Trust King John's Hunting Lodge; picturesque Priddy which still today holds a sheep fair which has been taking place for some 650 years; Cheddar, well known for its spectacular caves and gorge; the Medieval delight of Wells, the smallest city in the country; Glastonbury with its famous music festival; and Wedmore with lovely boutiques to browse.
Somerset may seem sleepy, but you barely need to scratch the surface to reveal why it is a favourite holiday destination for many people in every season. There is an excellent variety of outdoor and all-weather activities to keep everyone happy regardless of their interest, friendly towns and villages, delicious food and beautiful views. The location of Cider Barrel Cottage, tucked back from a quiet lane between Cheddar and Wells, makes it easy for visitors to get out and enjoy the best of Somerset's sights and attractions.
