Tyn Lyn is a beautiful retreat where couples and independent adventurers can escape and unwind. It sits in a peaceful spot half a mile from Caerau Gardens or any other neighbours, surrounded by 600 private acres and overlooks the lake where you can enjoy a refreshing dip, go kayaking or take out the boat. Idyllic doesn't even begin to describe this place, which has been lovingly restored by the owners to retain its rustic charm whilst being enhanced in 2021, to add a nice new entrance hall with wood burning sauna and walk-in power shower. There is solar power providing lighting and enabling the charging of mobile devices, as well as WiFi (not good enough for streaming and gaming but should allow guests to do emails), and very little to distract you from the pleasure of listening to the crackle of the wood burner as you chat over a glass of wine or dive into a good book with your hot chocolate.
Caerau Gardens is a beautiful spot a few miles from Bala and the Snowdonia National Park. There are fantastic walks from the door, with lots of opportunity for hill walking, rock climbing and mountain biking. The owner is happy to lend guests mountain bikes, fishing gear and kayaks, as well as provide information on local businesses who hire equipment and provide guided activities for visitors who want to get the most out of their time here.
You could easily spend full, happy days exploring the woods and the area around Tyn Lyn. It feels wonderfully remote and peaceful, with lots of opportunity for spotting birds and other wildlife.
Head out for the day, and within an hour you could be sitting on a beach overlooking Cardigan Bay, wandering through the cobbled lanes of Portmeirion, or taking a trip in a vintage steam train from Porthmadog. The base of Snowdon is less than an hour away, or drive to Llanberis and take the vintage train to the top and save your legs. Closer to the cottage are places like the National White Water Centre, Zip World Fforest and Pistyll Rhaedar waterfall.
Tyn Lyn may be rustic, but that doesn't mean it isn't comfortable. There is something charming about using candles and firelight, while the kitchen is perfectly equipped for self-catering with a gas oven, stove and fridge. If you want frills and fancy things, then this is not the place for you. However, if you yearn for peace and comfort with the chance of feeling like you've escaped the rat race even for just a few days, then you'll love it here.

We have finished our extension into the barn on the side, it’s stunning, do look at the pictures! A new entrance with shower room/loo and sauna! There is more information on our website and some drone footage of Tyn Llyn and the area, plus our garden just over the next hill. This is where you come on arrival.
Tyn Llyn can be cut off by snow in the Winter, obviously we do refund deposits if so!
We do sometimes allow a dog with reassurance that it will not be on the furniture or upstairs.
