About The Old Chequers

The Old Chequers is an impressive holiday home sleeping up to 14 people in six bedrooms with large reception rooms, an outdoor hot tub, and a river flowing through the private garden. The former village pub is in South Creake near Fakenham, a short stroll from The Ostrich Inn. It dates back some 300 years and has been completely refurbished, retaining the period charm and warmth of centuries of hospitality to combine with contemporary features and comforts. It's an excellent choice for self-catering holidays with extended family and friends in North Norfolk. Our newly added games room provides an excellent entertainment space, where guests can enjoy a game of pool while watching sports on TV.

South Creake is a friendly community in a great location with excellent access to the coast, countryside and popular attractions. To give you an idea of how central the house is, you're six miles from Burnham Market and Fakenham, eight miles from Holkham Beach and Wells-next-the-Sea, 15 miles from Hunstanton, 23 miles from Sheringham, and around an hour's drive from Norwich. You can choose from dozens of beaches, go walking along the coast or through the countryside, and eat, drink, and shop around historic market towns and picturesque villages. Local attractions include Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall, beWILDerwood, Norfolk Lavender, and Sandringham Royal Estate. You can visit the ancient ruins of Creake Abbey, have fun at an Escape Room and an axe-throwing range, admire the birds and the beauty of Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve and Blakeney Point, and take a journey on the Poppy Line of the North Norfolk Railway.

Guests who stay at The Old Chequers love that they can laze around the house, enjoy relaxed barbecues or picnics by the stream in the garden, and soak their stress away in the outdoor hot tub. The Old Chequers is a luxurious holiday home in North Norfolk, furnished to an exceptional standard and well-equipped to accommodate groups of up to 14 people. Highlights include:

Ground Floor:

  • Large entrance hallway with a black and white tiled floor, a hallway table for leaving keys, and a seating area with two comfortable armchairs and an upholstered ottoman.
  • Substantial living room with flagstone floors, ample seating, a fireplace with a log burner (two bags of logs are provided with more available to purchase), and a huge wall-mounted Smart TV with BT Sports, Sky Sports, Netflix, and Amazon channels. A conservatory extension increases the space, providing even more room for socialising.
  • Gorgeous dining room with a herringbone brick fireplace and wood burner, oak beams, a window seat, and a solid wood table seating 12 with room for a highchair.
  • Fitted kitchen fully equipped with all mod cons, including a dishwasher, Nespresso coffee maker, and a wine fridge with a complimentary bottle of wine. A generous welcome hamper awaits your arrival.
  • The utility room has laundry facilities, cleaning equipment, and two fridge/freezers. There is lots of space to store your groceries and keep everything fresh.
  • Dual aspect double room designed to accommodate guests who use a wheelchair. It has a superking or two 3ft-wide single beds, ample storage, two armchairs, and an accessible ensuite with a wet room shower, WC and a handbasin.

First Floor:

  • Luxurious master bedroom suite which features a dressing room, a TV room or snug, and views over the garden and the stream. A superking-sized bed, dressing table and wardrobe, and an ensuite with underfloor heating, a bath and a shower, combine to create a wonderfully indulgent space.
  • The Blue Room has a superking or twin single beds, plenty of storage, and space for a travel cot or an air mattress for younger children. There is a bath and a shower in the ensuite.
  • The Green Room has a king-sized bed, beautiful mango wood furniture and an ensuite with a shower.
  • The Yellow Room sits between the Green and Taupe rooms. It faces west so is great for guests who like to sleep late and enjoy the afternoon sun. There is a king-sized bed and an ensuite with a shower over the bath.
  • The Taupe Room is furnished with a king-sized bed and has an ensuite with a shower.

Outside: You'll spend happy hours in the garden where clever lighting makes it a useable space to socialise well into the evening. A barbecue, firepit, hot tub and lots of room to play make it ideal for all ages. You can fit 2 cars in the driveway, and up to 4 if you squeeze it. You can additionally park on Front Street, right next to the house, along the bollards. Please do not park immediately outside the entrance to the courtyard as it’s on a double yellow and the small passageway where the river flows through is actually a public highway.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. A welcome hamper and two baskets of logs are provided. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. Smoking is not allowed. Travel cots are available on request.
