Sexton's Cottage is an appealing, family-friendly holiday rental in Norfolk. It comfortably sleeps five people with room for a travel cot and has a pretty garden with a separate orchard. The particular attraction is not only its location in the charming village of Thornage near Holt but the period character of a house that has stood proud for more than 200 years. Centuries of family life have filled Sexton's Cottage with warmth and character, something the owners are keen to protect with period furniture and many original features, sympathetic to the property's age while still being comfortable for today's guests. All the rooms are south facing and filled with sunlight all day.
Thornage is a quiet village three miles from Holt in the picturesque Glaven Valley. Its proximity to the Georgian town and the stunning Norfolk coastline makes it ideal for a family holiday. Despite Sexton's Cottage's age, it's practically modern in a village listed in the Domesday Book! Make sure you stop by the medieval All Saints parish church and admire the pretty cottage gardens and pantiled roofs as you wander along the lane. There are excellent pubs in neighbouring Letheringsett and Hunworth and excellent delis, cafes, and restaurants in Holt.
Ten minutes drive north of Sexton's Cottage are Blakeney and Cley, two scenic seaside villages in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). This area is a particular favourite of birdwatchers and anglers, but you don't need to be an expert to appreciate the beauty of the birds and wildlife that flourish here. Stroll along the sand at Holkham Beach, rent a sailing boat in Wells, or enjoy the fresh sea breeze on a clifftop walk at Weybourne and Sheringham. The owners provide a helpful file of maps and information about the local area you can peruse over tea in the garden as you plan your days out.
