New Forest Barn is less than a two-hour drive from central London, yet a peaceful world away from the stress of city life. Approached via a quiet private drive, the barn has fabulous views and is only a 300-metre walk from the centre of Burley village and the popular Burley Inn. Recently renovated, the barn is perfect for couples looking for self-catering with a nod in the luxury direction and sleeps two guests (one dog also welcome).
The New Forest National Park is like something from an Enid Blyton book. Thatched cottages, forests with towering ancient trees, beautiful beaches and charming villages connected by miles of footpaths, cycling routes and bridleways. The pace of life slows here in the nicest possible way, giving you time to enjoy a pint or two of locally brewed beer or cider and a home cooked meal at a country pub. Burley has three pubs, including the 16th Century Queen’s Head that was a favourite with smugglers and highwaymen. These days, the only thing likely to hold you up on the road is one of Burley's free-roaming New Forest ponies, or possibly the horse-drawn wagon that takes visitors around the village.
Burley is ideal if you like being active as there is a challenging nine hole golf course, cycle hire, coarse fishing, and the chance to go on a deer safari in Burley Park. There are countless fantastic activities in the New Forest, whatever the weather. Get outdoors and see the Rufus Stone, go to Lepe Country Park or Moors Valley Country Park, try a high-rope course or go canoeing or water skiing, or walk along the forty miles of coastline and enjoy the views over the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
If it is raining, head indoors to Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Ringwood Brewery or Hurst Castle. Visit the New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst and find out more about the people and history of the area, or head to the pretty Georgian market town of Lymington with its shops, cafes and art gallery and museum. Buckler’s Hard has an excellent maritime museum; while being on the western side of the New Forest means Burley is close to Bournemouth and Poole.
It does not matter if you are looking to explore or simply want to relax and unwind, the New Forest Barn offers a warm welcome at any time of the year and a lovely bolt-hole to tuck yourself away and spend time together.
