Orchard Lea is a spacious and welcoming cottage close to both the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Located in the centre of the quiet village of Lea, within walking distance of the village shop and The Crown Inn, the cottage sleeps up to seven people in four comfortable bedrooms and boasts a four-person hot-tub. It is ideal for families and friends who want to explore Herefordshire and the Wye Valley.
Although Lea is peaceful and quiet, it is far from isolated being only four miles from the pretty market town of Ross-on-Wye. Whatever you can't pick up in the village shop you can get here, thanks to a good selection of shops and a regular market held every Thursday and Saturday. If you fancy a change of scene or more variety, then you will find it in the nearby cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester. Other nearby towns include Monmouth (great for antiques and curios) and Hay-on-Wye, a specialist book town with excellent cafes. Alternatively, the Regency town of Cheltenham Spa (with its famous race course) is just over half an hour's drive from the cottage, offering a range of high-end boutiques and shops.
The beauty of the natural landscape is one of the main reasons people make the Forest of Dean a regular holiday destination. It offers stunning views in every season as well as an excellent network of footpaths, bridleways and cycling trails via which to explore. There are also excellent opportunities for those with a passion for watersports such as Kayaking and canoeing. Don't miss the view from Symond's Yat - especially if you visit in autumn when the leaves are arguably at their most beautiful. Nearby, Puzzlewood has some of the oldest natural forest left in Britain, with the ancient setting featuring in a variety of films and television shows. The Malvern Hills AONB and the Cotswolds AONB are both within easy reach for a day out, meaning that whatever the season or the weather, there is always something fun to do.
If you love history, then this is an exciting holiday destination. The number of castles and fortified ruins is impressive, with some of the best-preserved being those at Chepstow Castle and White Castle.
The owners of Orchard Lea have two other Herefordshire holiday cottages in the village which can be booked on their own or together to accommodate up to 17 people. Please check their website for more information.
