Monnington House is an outstanding 5-Star holiday home for a multi-generational holiday with your extended family, celebrating your 50th birthday or another milestone event, or catching up with your oldest friends over a relaxing weekend in the countryside. The luxurious self-catering property is located close to the Wye Valley with the house sleeping 18 people in nine superbly-appointed bedrooms, three of which are in an adjoining Garden Cottage where there is one ground floor bedroom with M1 status. Spacious rooms and extensive gardens are ideal for socialising and allow guests to escape for some time on their own if they choose. The properties sit in the quiet hamlet of Monnington-on-Wye, with tranquil rural views and extensive beautiful walks from the door and also across the river at Moccas in the Nature Reserve.
Monnington-on-Wye is beside the River Wye in Herefordshire. It is wonderfully peaceful yet far from remote, thanks to its proximity to the M5 and the M50. The house and cottage are at the end of a lane with no passing traffic, just views of cider apple orchards, green fields and sheep. There is a wealth of activities easily accessible, including walking, cycling and mountain biking, golfing, horse riding, fishing, canoeing, quad biking, clay pigeon shooting etc. Even if you're not one for wellies and mud, you'll still find lots of ways to keep yourself happily occupied. Hereford is only eight miles from Monnington House. Most supermarkets deliver to the house but, if you'd rather grocery shop in person, you'll find a large Waitrose behind the restaurant and cinema complex. Hereford's beautiful cathedral is a trove of medieval treasure, housing the Mappa Mundi and the world's largest surviving chained library. The city is a vibrant blend of old and new, with traditional shops and markets next to a newer cinema and restaurant complex.
Day trips should certainly include a visit to Hay-on-Wye, where there are specialist bookshops, a ruined castle, lots of cafes, and a world-famous literary festival held every May. Ludlow is fantastic for food-lovers and boasts an impressive amount of black-and-white timber buildings. Leominster's antique shops will have you browsing happily for hours, as will the independently owned shops and boutiques of Leominster. Ross-on-Wye is also an excellent choice for foodies, especially at the Thursday morning market.
Monnington House and Garden Cottage are available for bookings all year round. Depending on availability, it may be possible to book them separately or alongside The Cider Mill (sleeping six) for larger groups of up to 24 guests. Please see the owner's website for details.
