About The Mill

Nestled in the countryside, but just ten minutes from the coast, The Mill is a stunning mix of the old and new. This detached former water mill has been lovingly converted to provide stylish accommodation for four people in two bedrooms and appeals to couples, friends and families with children over 8. Underfloor heating on both floors ensures a warm welcome whatever the weather, with woodburning stoves for added romance. Set just off a quiet country lane, in a tranquil valley, The Mill is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a perfect retreat for walkers, artists, photographers and star gazers.

You can relax with a book beside the babbling waters of the Afon Desach whilst swallows skim the surface or stroll up the hillside onto the Pilgrim’s Way long distance footpath, which has sea views towards Anglesey and magnificent sunsets. Or get in your car and in just 15 minutes you can be sitting on your beach towel on the beautiful blue flag Dinas Dinlle beach, with its backdrop of the Glyder mountain range.

In fact, there’s a beach for every day of the week within easy driving distance, pick your favourite from Morfa Bychan (Black Rock Sands), Abersoch, Llanbedrog, Whistling Sands, Criccieth and Porthdinllaen, with its world-famous Ty Goch Inn.

Snowdonia and the Llyn Peninsula are both sensational year-round holiday destinations. The Mill is in a fantastic location to give you good access to everything.

Explore magnificent Caernarfon Castle, or visit Porthmadog for a trip on the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog Railways. Follow the footsteps of The Prisoner around the magical Italianate village of Portmeirion or venture into the breath-taking beauty that is Snowdonia.

Llanberris is half an hour’s drive to take the Snowdon Mountain Railway up Wales’ highest peak or walk up the Llanberris Path. Other local attractions include Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Greenwood Forest Park, Zip World and Bounce Below, the Inigo Jones Slate Works, Anglesey Sea Zoo and Dragon Raiders Activity Park.

At the end of the day, you can return to the tranquillity of The Mill and relax with a drink on the balcony, blissfully away from traffic noise and take in the green pastoral view, before slipping into a comfy bed whilst contemplating the treasures that the next day will bring.

Location (Gwynedd)

The Mill is a former water powered corn mill that has been lovingly transformed into a welcoming holiday cottage with accommodation over two levels. It features original stone walls and oak beams and has under floor heating throughout. It is beautifully furnished with guests’ comfort in mind.

Accommodation comprises:

Downstairs:

  • Enter into the welcoming kitchen with its slate-effect floor and granite worktops. Fitted cupboards are well-stocked with equipment and utensils, and appliances include a dishwasher and washing machine. The windows overlook farmland, with mature oak trees on the horizon.
  • Step up into the dining room which is a gorgeous mix of natural textures and shades. The inglenook fireplace has a log burner - more for added cosiness than a necessity, thanks to efficient under floor heating. The oak table seats six people and looks fantastic when dressed for a special meal yet is also relaxed enough for a lazy breakfast and fun family-dinners.
  • Double bedroom with an internal glass wall that looks into the original 18th Century mechanics of the mill. Curtains provide privacy when you want to sleep. The double oak bed-frame is complemented by a chest of drawers. An armchair converts into a single (narrow) bed.

Upstairs:

  • Original oak trusses and beams, tactile stone walls and wooden flooring in a honey hue make it almost feel as if you're climbing the staircase to a tree house when you enter the lounge. A door opens onto the balcony, with its glass balustrade ensuring unrestricted views of the lovely surrounding countryside. There is ample seating for six including the sofa that opens into a 4ft wide sofa bed to sleep an extra guest if it's required. Like the dining room, the lounge also has a log burner with an initial supply of wood included.
  • Master bedroom with feature stone wall, exposed beams and views through the trees towards the river. Oak-framed King size bed, bedside tables, chest of drawers and wardrobe.
  • Designer bathroom with waterfall taps, shower over double-ended bath, WC and hand basin.

Outside: In addition to the balcony on the upper level, the cottage has a patch of grass next to the River Desach, which is a good place to observe the local wildlife. There is parking for two cars.

Additional Information: Freesat TV and selection of DVDs, bed linen and towels are included for the double bed and king size bed. Note that the sofa bed and chair bed are there to create flexible sleeping arrangements, for which guests will need to bring their own bedding. The maximum capacity of the cottage is for five people. Smoking and pets are not permitted.
