About Birch Cleave Barns

Birch Cleave Barns is in the geographical heart of Exmoor National Park, on the edge of the elevated village of Simonsbath and across the road from the Exmoor Forest Inn pub and restaurant. The views are as incredible as the standard of the self-catering accommodation, with guests loving having direct access to scenic footpaths from the door. Not only is Birch Cleave Barns Adult only and dog friendly, but also it offers an opportunity to stable up to two horses for those who wish to explore the miles of magnificent bridleways across the moors.

It's hard to think of a better location for enjoying the beauty of Exmoor and the Somerset coastline than Simonsbath. The friendly village is a popular point for starting and finishing walks, with a lovely route beside the river Barle from Simonsbath to Whitypool via Cow Castle. As well as a pub (featured in the Good Food Guide), Simonsbath has an excellent cafe/tea room where you can treat yourself to freshly baked cake or scones. Those staying in May and June can experience the Simonsbath Festival, which celebrates the landscape and the people of Exmoor. Shops, twice-weekly markets (Thursday and Saturday), and other necessary amenities are 11 miles away in South Molton. Alternatively, head 13 miles south to the market town of Dulverton.

From Birch Cleave Barns, it's only ten miles to Lynton and Lynmouth. A water-powered funicular has linked the two communities, known by Victorian holidaymakers as "Little Switzerland" for over a century. It is a fantastic way to enjoy the view from the top without having to walk there. The South West Coast Path start nearby in Minehead and offers another beautiful way to admire the scenery. Days out can also include sunning yourself on one of two Minehead beaches or marvelling at Dunster Castle's magnificence and gardens. The castle, village and mill are cared for by the National Trust. Other local attractions are Exmoor Zoo, Valley of the Rocks, Tarr Steps, and Watersmeet.

You can book The Stables at Birch Cleave Barns at any time of the year. Please get in touch with the owner directly to enquire about the availability of The Cottage.
