This aesthetically appealing thatched cottage, is endowed with historical architectural beauty. Having been a former gate house, it dates back to the early 1800’s making it a timeless Grade II listed building, which is referenced at the V&A museum.
It is quintessentially unique and boasts a cosy romantic charm, situated in the small and peaceful picturesque village of Nether Compton, located just on the iconic Jurassic Dorset Coast side of the county border with Somerset, a few miles from the towns of Yeovil to the West and Sherborne to the east.
A serene getaway, just 2 hours from London. Nether Compton is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful countryside, coast and varied attractions of both Dorset and Somerset.
In an area of natural beauty, in green belts of meadows, pastures, fields and surrounded by woodlands and lakes, it offers the opportunity to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of rural life.
It's a haven for busy city dwellers that are needing to escape the modern and loud concrete jungle, to rest and recharge. Equally a perfect choice for rural dwellers, nature lovers and keen walkers, who will be spoilt for choice of the many walks. Those seeking to shut out the everyday, to disappear for a while and envelop themselves in the healing therapeutic qualities of nature, will have their needs unequivocally fulfilled - with their choice of stay being the ‘Round Lodge’.
Key Features :
The house has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 5 beds, One snug room or "Den" Room that can be used as a additional bedroom with pull out bed. We can accommodate 6 guests, with the possibility of 2 small children as extras on our pull out beds.
Available for short breaks and long terms are considered.
Bedroom and Laundry : All of our beds will be made up and if you have requested a pull out bed as an added extra we will have linen and bedding for this also. If you have asked to use a child's travel cot then please bring your own bedding for this.
In our downstairs wash room we have free to use washing machine and tumble dryer, drying rack and iron.
Bathroom : We provide all our guests with Noble Isle bathroom products and soaps, including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand wash. They are a luxury UK brand and the scents are divine. Towels and bath mats are also provided with hairdryers in the bedrooms, so you have more room in your suitcase to pack another book to read!

Outdoor : Private patio and decking next to the natural spring and lake. The garden space is fully secure for both dogs and children, allowing you to enjoy the surroundings without worry. An open space on the property usually covered in grass with outdoor furniture and outdoor dining area.
Parking and facilities : Free parking on premises. EV charger - Guests can charge their electric vehicles on the property.

Walking and Cycling : The Monarch’s Way and McMillan Way (walking) and National Cycle Route 26 are very nearby as is the South West coastal footpath. Jurassic Coast - 95 miles of truly stunning coastline also known as The Dorset and East Devon Coast World Heritage Site.
Sherborne – historic market town famous for its beautiful Abbey as well as two castles.
There is a Literary Festival in October and a Music festival in May.
Cadbury Castle – Bronze and Iron age fort reputed to be King Arthur’s Camelot.
Cerne Abbas Giant - Britain’s largest chalk hill figure cared for by the National Trust.
Visit the lovely village of Cerne Abbas too.
Dorset Arts Weeks – one of the largest open studio events in the country (May/June).
East Lambrook Manor Gardens - created by the late Margaret Fish in 1938.
The Fleet Air Arm Museum – one of the largest aviation museums in the world.
Golf - Yeovil Golf Club 2 miles away and Sherborne Golf Club 5 miles away.
Hardy Country – Thomas Hardy was born and lived much of his life in Dorset.
