Groom Cottage is one of a collection of superb holiday properties at Doles Ash Farm. Each cottage sleeps between 2 and 11 guests with the potential for several cottages to be booked together to accommodate larger groups. Groom Cottage sleeps six people in three bedrooms but can be linked with Huntsman Cottage to accommodate up to 11 guests. There are miles of footpaths leading from the property, and vast grounds in which you can relax and play.
The Piddle Valley is a dream holiday destination offering lush rolling countryside, sandy beaches, vibrant towns, friendly villages and history that dates back to the dinosaurs. Dorchester is only a 15-minute drive away and a great place to browse boutiques, and there are also supermarkets for picking up provisions. Dorset has a fascinating history you can learn about at places such as the Dorset County Museum, Keep Military Museum, and the Romano-British House in the centre of the city. Nearby Poundbury, primarily influenced by Prince Charles’ views on town development and sustainability, also has some excellent shops and cafes.
Weymouth and the Jurassic Coast are also within a short drive, making Doles Ash Farm an ideal base for a traditional bucket-and-spade holiday. Enjoy seaside entertainment at Weymouth, marvel at the breathtaking beauty of Durdle Door, and hunt for fossils at Worbarrow Bay. Lulworth Cove, Chesil Beach, Kimmeridge and Ringstead Bay are all stunning beaches whether you want to lie in the sun and read a book or spend a few hours surfing, coasteering or kayaking. Slightly further away but still within an hour are Pool with its bustling harbour, Swanage, Bournemouth and Lyme Regis.
There are countless ways to spend your holiday in Dorset apart from shopping and sunbathing. T. E. Lawrence, the writer and explorer nicknamed Lawrence of Arabia, is buried at Moreton. The National Trust manages the cottage where another great British writer, Thomas Hardy, was born as well as Max Gate, the house he designed and lived at the end of his life. The thatched cottages at Milton Abbas make it one of the most picturesque villages in the south-west, while the busy market and ancient castle attract visitors to Sherborne all year round.
Whether you are a couple escaping for a romantic break or are planning a special celebration for your extended family, Groom Cottage and the other fantastic properties at Doles Ash Farm are a perfect choice.
