About The Farmhouse at Downhouse Farm

The Farmhouse at Downhouse Farm is a welcoming holiday cottage on a family-run farm on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Before being renovated to become a comfortable holiday home that can sleep eight to ten people in four bedrooms, the dog-friendly Grade II listed farmhouse was the owner's cherished family home and arriving here feels relaxing and familiar. The house's location less than a mile from Dursley gives visitors direct access to miles of footpaths and best-loved views and is also close to historic towns and villages.

The Cotswold Way stretches for 102 glorious miles from Chipping Campden to Bath and passes close by Downhouse Farm. Cam Peak is a very short walk from the front door, rewarding the effort of climbing the hill with far-reaching views over towards the River Severn. A folder detailing some of the owner's favourite walks is waiting in the cottage, ready to help visitors plan their next adventure. There is plenty for visitors of all ages to enjoy during their stay at Downhouse Farm, making it ideal for multiple generation family gatherings, or for groups of friends. Favourite local attractions for a fun-filled day outdoors include Slimbridge Wetland Centre and Westonbirt Arboretum. Cattle Country Farm Park is an excellent all-weather destination as it has both indoor and outdoor attractions, as is magnificent Berkeley Castle. Nearby cities of Bristol, Bath and Cheltenham are all easy to visit on a day trip too.

Despite its relaxed, rural setting Downhouse Farm is easy to reach via road and has a local train station (Cam & Dursley) 2.5 miles away. It is close to some of the areas best sights and attractions and it is simple to unwind in these beautiful surroundings, planning activities that can range from remote walks through the countryside to city trips and dinners out.

Location (The Cotswolds)

Accommodation Comprises:

The Farmhouse is an 18th-Century Grade II listed house on a small farm. It was formerly the owner's home and they haven't moved far, now living next door in a converted barn.

Downstairs:

  • Enter through a covered porch and into a spacious hallway where there is a staircase directly in front of you and reception rooms on either side
  • Large living room with a feature fireplace and log burner, L-shaped sofa and a smart TV with a DVD player.
  • Second sitting room is next to the kitchen and connected by a hatch that parents can leave open if they are cooking but need to keep an eye on the kids. This room has a gas-fired stove, piano, wooden floors, and original shutters, and comfortable seating where you can relax and watch TV.
  • Country kitchen with tiled floor, AGA range cooker, separate oven and hobs, dishwasher and a tall fridge/freezer. The farmhouse table in the centre comfortably seats eight, making this a sociable, bustling room in heart of the house. An additional small table and chairs can be included to provide seating for groups up to ten. The window overlooks the garden and fields beyond.
  • Boot room where you can dry shoes, coats and muddy paws and safely store bicycles.
  • Utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, with a door leading to a cloakroom with WC and handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Spacious master bedroom with a king-sized bed handcrafted from reclaimed timber, ample storage and an en-suite with a rainfall shower, WC and handbasin, A big window looks out onto the garden and countryside, and the original fireplace is a lovely decorative feature
  • A second bedroom, down three steps, has two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds and a pine rocking chair, with soft grey and yellow decor.
  • Two further bedrooms each have a super king-sized zip and link bed that can be separated into two single beds. Both have ample space for a small single guest bed to allow the room to sleep three guests.
  • The family bathroom with a rainfall shower over the bath, WC and handbasin.

Outside: Enclosed garden with a lawn that is ideal for games, and mature trees for shade and added privacy. A gravel drive at the front of the house has parking for multiple cars.

Additional Information: All utilities, sheets, towels and wi-fi are included. Two of the bedrooms have a flexible layout - please let the owner know our preference when booking. Short breaks are possible all year round, (except Christmas), with a two night minimum, depending on availability. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement. Smoking, including vaping, is not permitted. Being hundreds of years old there are some rustic quirks to the farmhouse, there are low beams and ceilings, low doorways, steps down/up into some rooms and slightly uneven floors.
