Brookside Cottage is almost too good to be true. The Grade II listed property dates from 1635 and has flawless period character and charm including a pretty thatched roof, solid wood floors and original beams, yet it is a fresh, contemporary space that is entirely comfortable for 21st-Century visitors. The self-catering Stratford cottage is part of the excellent Burnside Hotel and can sleep up to six people in three spacious bedrooms, making it perfect for families and friends. Guests not only have access to the hotel's restaurant but are also within walking distance of welcoming pubs including The Bell and The Squirrel.
Visitors get the best of both worlds when they stay at Brookside Cottage. Although Stratford-Upon-Avon's famous sights are just over a mile away, guests can avoid the sometimes-overwhelming number day-trippers who flock to the riverside town to view places like Shakespeare's Birthplace and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Admirers of The Bard will be delighted to know that his wife, Anne Hathaway, grew up just across a field from Brookside Cottage, and a visit to Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Gardens will be a highlight of your stay.
Guests staying at Brookside Cottage can wake to the gentle sounds of the birds and the brook in the garden. Days can be full of the lively bustle of sightseeing and shopping in town, or the calming experience of walking or cycling through the beautiful countryside, with a woodland walk accessible from the cottage door.
There is far more to Warwickshire than Shakespeare. For example, the ancient city of Warwick with its imposing castle is only a 15-minute drive from Brookside Cottage, while Worcester and the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are easily reached in around 45-minutes. Chipping Campden, Hidcote Manor, and the north of the Cotswolds are all a 20-minute drive from the cottage, as is Royal Leamington Spa. Guests can enjoy boat trips or walks along the beautiful River Avon, a round of golf at one of three courses within a ten-minute drive, and days spent at attractions like Twycross Zoo and Kenilworth Castle.
Stratford-Upon-Avon has so much to see and do that it doesn't matter what time of the year you visit, there is always something there that will make you happy. Alternatively, put your feet up in the very comfortable surroundings of Brookside Cottage and enjoying being a part of this wonderful house's long history, even if only for a short time.
