Y Granar (The Granary) is a romantic holiday cottage in beautiful rural Wales. You'll be enchanted with the sumptuous four-poster kingsize bed, freestanding rolltop bath, wood burning stove, and character antique furniture. The cottage is on the Tan yr Allt smallholding just outside of Tregaron in Ceredigion, with stunning views of the Cambrian Mountains and fantastic walks and bike rides from the door. It's perfect for couples or individuals who want to treat themselves to an indulgent stay in very comfortable surroundings. Dogs are absolutely welcome, and can expect their own dog bowls and treats and lots of space to play and explore. Small dogs can luxuriate in their own four-poster bed, and even the largest will want to sprawl out on the underheated floor. All dogs can revel in beautiful walks from the doorstep with no stiles, through countryside, open moorland, and woods, and up to a spectacular mountain-top viewpoint.
Tregaron is a quiet market town just a mile away from the cottage. Once a popular stopping off point for drovers, it's still a welcoming place for visitors who can choose between cafés, take-aways, and dog-friendly pubs like the 17th century Y Talbot, which serves Welsh ales and food from seasonal menus in their bar and restaurant. The scenic Abergwesyn Mountain Road begins just outside Tan yr Allt. This sweeping road leads into the Cambrian Mountains, passing open hills, forests, lakes and rivers. Tregaron hosts an annual eisteddfod, and regular Welsh harness racing (trotian) meets. It’s also the home of the Welsh Gold Centre, and the Tregaron Historical Centre, where you can see how the magnificent Red Kites were saved from extinction in Wales, as well as learn about Tregaron’s history and enjoy a cup of tea with homemade scones.
We wouldn't blame you for sleeping late and lazing around the cottage. However, if you want to explore, you'll find a stunning natural playground waiting for you to discover. Walking, mountain biking, and road cycling are all easily accessible. The Cors Caron Nature Reserve is a few miles away, with raised boardwalks across 2,000 acres of wetland and wilderness protecting 170 species of birds, otters and other wildlife. RSPB Gwenffrwd Dinas Nature Reserve is another top choice for walking and bird-watching. Nearby, you can explore National Trust properties such as the Dolaucothi Gold Mines and the Llanerchaeron Estate, see the ruins of the 12th century Strata Florida Abbey, or have your photo taken at the most remote phone box in Wales in Nantymaen. If you fancy a trip to the seaside, New Quay and Aberystwyth are around 25 miles and under an hour's drive from the cottage.
At the end of a day of walking, cycling and sightseeing, you can light a fire in the wood stove, relax in the bath, or take a glass of wine out onto the the balcony to admire spectacularly dark night skies. Y Granar welcomes guests all year round which means it's always the right time to treat yourself to a luxurious stay.

Y Granar is an open-plan cottage in a 200 year-old barn set into the Welsh hillside. A walkway allows entrance from the quiet lane at the front at the same time as sweeping countryside views from the balcony. Everything is on the same floor with no internal steps. It’s kept wonderfully cosy all year thanks to environmentally-friendly bio-mass underfloor heating.
Outside: The balcony has chairs for sitting and watching Red Kites soar overhead and admiring the stunning scenery, and has plenty of room for your dogs to lounge. A flight of stairs (or, alternately, a stroll down the driveway) leads to your private garden with a barbecue and further seating. Guests can use Tan yr Allt’s grounds, including meadows, a dog exercise paddock, bluebell woods, and a stream. There is off-street parking outside the cottage.
Additional Information: Utilities, bed linens and bath towels are included. Up to four dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome - please ask the owner if you wish to bring more, or other animals, as it may be possible. Dog leads and bowls are provided, as is a four-poster dog bed suitable for most small/medium dogs. Smoking is NOT permitted anywhere in the property.
