About Y Bwthyn

Y Bwthyn is a wonderful country retreat for couples and families, including those with dogs, in the gorgeous Carmarthenshire countryside. Every facet of this self-catering cottage has been designed for guests' comfort, encouraging them to relax and unwind in the quiet surroundings so far removed from the noisy and often frenetic pace of daily life. There is a private garden with patio seating and a hot tub (great for stargazing in skies free from light pollution), beautifully proportioned rooms and high-quality furnishings. The cottage is less than half a mile from the Tafarn Yr Oen (Lamb Inn) in Blaenwaun and close to the Afon Sien (Sien River). The layout is perfect for couples, families, and friends, with one well-behaved dog also welcome.

The cottage is on the owner's smallholding, where they grow fruit and vegetables. It's delightfully tranquil yet is only 15 miles from the county town of Carmarthen, where there is a wide variety of places to shop and eat. It's also only a few miles from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and 15 miles from Cardigan Bay, opening up miles of breathtaking coastline and stunning sandy beaches for your enjoyment. Start your stay with a stroll to nearby woodland and the neolithic Gwal y Filiast chambered tomb. Green-fingered guests will appreciate being close to the beautiful gardens at Llwyngarreg, Aberglasney, Colby Woodland, Picton Castle, and the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. Other local attractions include Carew Castle, Cardigan Castle, and Laugharne Castle.

Further afield, take day trips to Tenby (40 minutes), Folly Farm (40 minutes), Swansea (one hour), the west Brecon Beacons (one hour), St David's (one hour), and waterfall country (1 hour 30 minutes). There is no shortage of places to explore and enjoy, no matter what season you visit or what the weather is doing.

The owners of Y Bwythn have worked hard to create an atmosphere where you can retreat and allow the beauty and calm of your surroundings to leave you feeling restored and revived. They can arrange for a delivery of fresh local produce and specially compiled hampers to help you plan your self-catering. Hampers include jams made from the fruit on the smallholding, freshly baked bread and homemade cakes straight from the farmhouse. The combination of delicious food, gorgeous surroundings, and activities and attractions to suit all interests is sheer bliss.

Accommodation Comprises:

Y Bwthyn is a spacious cottage built from a former cow and pig shed. The owners have lovingly transformed it into a welcoming holiday home using local stone and traditional techniques blended with contemporary touches for comfort, like underfloor heating throughout. Accommodation is all on one level.

  • Enter through the garden via a covered porch where you can leave coats and walking boots to dry.
  • Step into the spacious living/dining room with a log burner for cold weather, comfortable seating, a TV, and books and information about the local area. A glass dining table with four chairs is between the living room and the kitchen, benefiting from views of the orchard and garden beds.
  • Modern kitchen fully equipped for self-catering, including a dishwasher.
  • Walk down the hallway to the master bedroom which boasts a beautiful vaulted ceiling with oak beams, a window overlooking the garden, and a kingsized bed with bedside tables and reading lights.
  • Second bedroom is a twin with the option to link to form a standard double bed. This creates a flexible space either for two children or a couple.
  • Contemporary wet room with a spacious shower area, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The cottage has a private garden with a patio and outdoor furniture and a brick barbecue. An outdoor hot tub is in a secluded corner, with guests having fluffy white robes and slippers for a touch of spa retreat luxury.

Additional Information: WiFi, utilities, an initial supply of firewood, bath towels and bed linen are all included. One well-behaved dog is welcome by arrangement. Please note that the garden is not enclosed and there is open access to the road, so dogs and children need to be well-supervised.   Smoking is not permitted.
