Dôl Werdd Lodge is a timber holiday cottage in Garnant within walking distance to lovely walks along the Amman river. Sleeping four guests at the south-western edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, its elevated position offers a grandstand view across the Amman Valley, especially from the deck, where the landscape stretches beyond the garden. Guests regularly mention the birdlife, changing light and sunsets here, and it's not difficult to understand why the outside space gets so much attention. Indoors, exposed beams and wood floors retain the character of a traditional log cabin without sacrificing everyday comforts. The open-plan living area has windows onto the greenery outside and a wood burner ready for chilly Welsh evenings, patio doors take you straight onto the decking where there are table and chairs for alfresco dining. Two bedrooms accommodate four guests, one with a standard double and the other with a smaller 4ft double, and one dog can come along too.
Garnant and the surrounding Amman Valley put some excellent countryside remarkably close to the front door. Walkers can head towards the Black Mountain and the south-western reaches of the national park, while cyclists have quiet lanes and challenging climbs to tackle. Garnant Golf Club is nearby, with an 18-hole parkland course and impressive mountain views; non-members are welcome to play or stop for a drink on the terrace. As well as the pubs, Ammanford offers shops and everyday amenities when you need to stock the kitchen. After a day outside, returning here feels pleasantly simple: muddy boots off, fire lit, then perhaps an hour on the veranda listening to the birds before daylight disappears behind the valley. The lodge has earned Customers' Choice awards for both 2025 and 2026, with previous guests particularly praising its cleanliness, comfort, thoughtful hosts and outlook.
There's plenty to discover on days when you venture beyond the valley. Dinefwr combines a medieval castle, historic house and nature reserve, while the National Showcaves Centre for Wales takes you underground into an extraordinary network of caves. Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary makes an interesting family outing, and Dynamic Rock offers indoor climbing if the Welsh weather decides not to cooperate. Head south and the landscape changes again, with Swansea and the beaches of the Gower Peninsula opening up possibilities for a day beside the sea. Then turn north for mountains, waterfalls, walking trails and the wide-open scenery of Bannau Brycheiniog. Dôl Werdd Lodge puts you between the two, with that familiar Black Mountain view waiting when you return.

A single-storey timber lodge on the owner's property.
Outside: The decking gives you somewhere to sit and properly appreciate the lodge's elevated position, with outdoor furniture and open views across the valley towards the Black Mountain. The enclosed rear garden provides additional outdoor space with recliners and is particularly useful for guests bringing a dog. The larger lawn beyond is shared with the owners, who live nearby. Private parking is provided for two cars.
Additional Information: 1 dog welcome by arrangement. Smoking not permitted. Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are provided.
