Bwthyn Creigiau is a former farm building given a new lease of life as a light and spacious holiday cottage. Three bedrooms sleep up to six people with room for a cot, making it a great choice for a family who wants to stay somewhere quiet that is close to the coast of Carmarthen Bay. Apart from one of the bedrooms, all of the accommodation is on one level, and the furnishings and layout have been carefully considered to make Bwthyn Creigiau accessible for guests in wheelchairs.
The cottage is located on a former working farm, surrounded by verdant countryside. The village of Llangain is a mile and a half from the cottage, with gorgeous woodland carpeted with daffodils and bluebells during spring, as well as gently rolling hills that rise to offer lovely views. A short walk from Llangain will take you to the ruins of Castle Moel, while other footpaths lead to sites such as Meini Llwydion and Merlin’s Quoits, both of which are believed to be Neolithic burial sites.
There are excellent shops and amenities five miles away in Carmarthen, including a large Tesco, as well as a train station and a variety of places to eat and drink. Carmarthen is built on the banks of the River Tovey and is believed to be not only the oldest town in Wales but also the birthplace of the legendary wizard, Merlin. There is certainly something magical about Carmarthen, particularly in the old part of town where you will find family-run restaurants and pubs like The Plume of Feathers in St Mary’s Street which is so small that there is no room to sit down! Carmarthen also has a good variety of shops with both independent boutiques and familiar high-street names. Also in town are the Gwili Steam railway, a cinema, a bowling alley with play area, and laser tag.
The proximity to beautiful beaches are another reason to stay at Bwthyn Creigiau, with the nearest being Llansteffan only ten minutes from the cottage. Llansteffan is on the tidal Twyi Estuary with two beaches - The Green, which has parking, a cafe and a shop, and Scott’s Bay which is flat and sandy and good for fishing for bass and flounder. Both beaches have a wide (especially at low tide) expanse of hard sand which is great for playing games and are popular with families and children who like to swim when the tide is in.
During your stay, you can walk or cycle through the countryside, play on the beach, visit castles like Carmarthen, Laugharne and Kidwelly, or watch the birds on a walk along the estuary or around Llyn Brianne Dam. The Gower and the Pembrokeshire coast are each within an hour’s drive of the cottage, as are Brechfa Forest and the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The peaceful location and high standard of accommodation are such that you may be perfectly content sitting in the cottage’s six-acres and landscaped gardens. Whatever the season, Bwthyn Creigiau is a fantastic choice for your next holiday.
