Windmill Stables Holiday Lets is a collection of three superb holiday cottages in Barrington, within walking distance of the River Cam, village green and the Royal Oak, where pints have been poured since the late 1200s. It's a pretty place with a mix of architectural styles ranging from centuries-old thatched cottages to modern properties. The three cottages are part of a converted windmill and have recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Each holiday home sleeps two adults and can be booked together to accommodate a group of friends. Guests can use amenities that include a games room, swimming pool, barbecue, pizza oven, boules pitch, and extensive gardens.
Barrington is a friendly place, reputed to have the longest village green in England at over half a mile long. As well as the pub, there's a well-stocked village shop and a Grade-I listed church. It's a perfect place for discovering why the Cambridgeshire countryside is a year-round favourite holiday destination for so many. If you love walking and cycling, you'll enjoy the plentiful opportunities on the footpaths and cycling routes around the cottage, including along the River Cam to Cambridge, seven miles away, and to Granchester and the Orchard Tea Garden.
Cambridge is as impressive as you would expect from a world-famous city. Everyone's heard of the university, established in 1209 by a breakaway group of rebellious Oxford academics, with sights that include Kings College Chapel, the University Botanic Garden, and the Mathematical Bridge under which you can punt. There are fantastic museums with vast collections that will overload your senses, shops ranging from high-end boutiques to craft market stalls, and an enormous choice of tempting eateries that will leave you wondering whether you can squeeze in just one more bite. Other local attractions near Windmill Stables Holiday Lets include National Trust Wimpole Estate and the extensive collection of military planes and vehicles at IWM Duxford.
Trains from London Kings Cross to Shepreth station, a mile from the cottages, take just over an hour. Leave your desk and, before you know it, you can be enjoying a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc or a cocktail at the Royal Oak, knowing that your holiday is just beginning and you have all the time in the world to enjoy yourself.
