Silver Birch Cottage is perfect for a rural Welsh escape. Close to the Brecon Beacons National Park, the cottage is in the historic market town of Llandovery, within walking distance of cafes, shops and friendly pubs. The entire house has recently been refurbished to a high standard to sleep up to four people in two lovely ensuite bedrooms and a layout that is perfect for couples or families.
Llandovery is wonderfully Welsh. The Carmarthenshire market town is built beside the River Tywi and has been a hub for the farming communities in the surrounding area for centuries. The market town is steeped in history with its castle ruins and statue of prince Llewellyn as well as being a hub for the old drovers. The town boasts a local butchers, bakery and organic grocers amongst other quaint shops. Llandovery has a great choice of places to eat and drink if you fancy lunch or dinner out, including excellent cafes and tea rooms.
The landscape around Llandovery deserves to be savoured. One of the best ways to enjoy its beauty is on foot. Local trails lead to beauty spots that include the Llyn Brienne Reservoir in the Doethie Valley, Llyn Y Fan Fach, Bannau Sir Gaer, and the waterfalls in Cwm Rhaeadr. The Black Mountains, Crychan Forest and Usk Reservoir are also nearby. With the Brecon Beacons and Brechfa Forest close by, mountain bikers also love this part of Wales.
Watch the magnificent red kites at the feeding station in Llanddeusant, which has been instrumental in increasing numbers of these birds in the wild and is only half an hour's drive from the cottage. Other nearby attractions include the castle at Carreg Cennen and Newton House and Deer Park. Visit the pretty village of Myddfai which was famous in medieval times for its skilled physicians, or climb aboard and take a train over the impressive Cynghordy Viaduct. Not only are the Dolaucothi Goldmines the only Roman goldmines in Britain, but they are just 20-minutes from Llandovery and make a great all-weather attraction.
Whatever time of the year you visit, you'll always find a warm welcome waiting at Silver Birch Cottage.
