Basel Cottage is located a few miles outside of the historic Market Town of Llandovery in Carmarthenshire in rural Mid Wales. Recently renovated to a very high standard and situated in the magnificent Cambrian Mountains region, close to the north-west corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Basel Cottage has superb access to footpaths and mountain bike routes. It sits in 17 private acres of beautiful Welsh countryside with views of the River Bran and provides award-winning 5-Star accommodation for up to four people in two lovely, spacious bedrooms. Up to two well behaved dogs are very welcome to stay free of charge - for additional dogs please contact the owner. The setting and the layout are perfect for couples, families and groups of friends, giving you the choice of being active or just enjoying the opportunity of guilt-free relaxation. Instruction in Archery and Target Air Rifle Shooting is available to book on site with a qualified Instructor. There is also a four hole 'agricultural' Pitch and Putt Golf Course, Full size Basket Ball Hoop, Seasonal Croquet and a Games Room with Table Tennis, Darts, Mini Snooker and Table Football for guests of all ages to enjoy.
There's nowhere better to lose your cares and find yourself than in the gentle Carmarthenshire landscape. With extensive land on the doorstep including an Enclosed Garden, Decked Terrace overlooking the river, Stone and Slate Terrace with Fire-pit and a Wooden Cabin in the Enclosed Woodland, you don’t have to go anywhere else to sit peacefully and enjoy the joys of nature. The fabulous Crychan Forest is close by with bridleways, footpaths and cycling routes and the wider local area gives you the ability to go for miles without seeing another person. Llandovery Town offers an eclectic array of independent shops, cafes and pubs where you will receive a very warm welcome. Llandovery is also a favourite destination for mountain bikers and it has a choice of trails to suit every ability. Recommended local trails for walking or cycling include those around Llyn y Fan Fach, Cwm Rhaeadr and Brechfa Forest. A little further afield, you can enjoy the delights of the picturesque Elan Valley, an area of 72 square miles of mainly open moorland which is well known for its spectacular dams and reservoirs.
A perfect day out from Basel Cottage could feature an hour's drive from the cottage through the Brecon Beacons to Waterfall Country near Neath, visiting the Red Kite Feeding Station to witness the ferocious beauty of these birds at close hand; or throwing a picnic together to enjoy at beaches like Tenby, Pembrey, Llansteffan, Swansea, Newquay or along the coast of Cardigan Bay. Depending on the time of the year you're there, you may be lucky enough to enjoy the Llandovery Motorbike Weekend or the Llandovery Sheep Festival. Llandovery is surrounded by thriving farming communities and summer sees a variety of local agricultural shows. The highlight of these is the Royal Welsh Show held just half an hour away over four days in July.
Local attractions include Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Dinefwr Park, Dan yr Ogof Showcaves, Carreg Cennen Castle, Aberglasney House and Gardens and the National Botanic Garden of Wales. However you prefer to spend your days, you’ll love returning to the comfort and ambience of Basel Cottage and experiencing first-hand the amazing dark night skies.

Accommodation Comprises:
Basel Cottage is on the owner's estate, surrounded by acres of fields and woodland, with direct access to the Afon (River) Bran. It is made from locally quarried stone with accommodation over two levels.
Downstairs: Welsh Slate tiled
Upstairs: Bedrooms, landing and stairs are carpeted with the bathroom and en-suite tiled
Outside: Set within the 17 acres of fields and woodlands, Basel Cottage has various seating areas all with wonderful views. There is an enclosed garden, a large decked terrace with garden furniture and river views, a stone and slate terrace with seating and a fire-pit and a fully enclosed woodland. There is off-street parking for a number of cars and secure lockable garage for bicycles and motorbikes. There is a Games Room which includes a full size Table Tennis Table, Table Football and Darts and outside there is a full size Basket Ball Hoop. A fun 'Agricultural Style' 4 Hole Golf Course is on-site to practice your golf skills and qualified professional Archery and Target Air Rifle Shooting Instruction is available to book during your stay.
Additional Information: WiFi, utilities, bath towels and bed linen are all provided, as is an initial supply of fuel for the log burner. A cot (no bedding) and highchair are available - please specify when booking. Up to two dogs are welcome with the owner's prior agreement for no extra cost - Please contact the owner directly if you wish to bring more than 2 dogs with you on holiday. The cottage is a non-smoking property. Complimentary Cream Tea provided upon arrival.
