Stella Maris is a superb beachfront holiday cottage with uninterrupted views over the North Sea, beautifully landscaped gardens, and an interior that reflects the style and talents of the artist owner. It's at the end of a lane in the quiet fishing village of Auchmithie with no passing traffic to interrupt the sound of the waves crashing onto the shoreline. The two-bedroom holiday home sleeps four people and suits couples, families and friends who want a place where they can swap noisy, stressful everyday life for the relaxed and easy pace of seaside living.
Auchmithie is a picturesque Scottish fishing village with fantastic views. Locals revere it as the birthplace of the famous "smokie", a method of preserving fish brought over by invading Vikings. Don't miss the opportunity to taste smokies and other traditional meals at the welcoming But'n'Ben restaurant that's only a few minutes walk from the cottage. All of the shops and amenities you need are a short drive away in neighbouring Arbroath, where there are also the remains of a beautiful abbey.
Days at Stella Maris can be spent walking along the coast, including along the Geo Diversity Trail between Auchmithie and Arbroath and looking out into the sea to spot pods of playful dolphins. Wander down to Auchmithie's historic harbour to look for the puffins that nest around Seaton Cliffs in spring and summer. The Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Seaton Cliffs Reserve is also home to rock doves, kittiwakes, and the occasional peregrine falcon. You won't be surprised to learn that smugglers used the caves around Auchimithie's pebbled beach to store ill-gotten wares.
The wider area has lots to keep everyone happy in any season. Explore sandy beaches of St Cyrus and Lunan Bay, play golf at Carnoustie or St Andrews, go cycling or hiking through glens, visit castles and distilleries, or spend days shopping and sightseeing around Dundee or Aberdeen. Visitors with children can make great use of the area's multiple parks and leisure centres, as well as attractions like the Dundee Science Centre.
Stella Maris is wonderfully welcoming to visitors in all seasons.
