Angus has an absolute wealth of different historical attractions and the whole region is steeped in folklore, legend and history. The Arbroath Abbey dates back to the 12^th century and was the location for the Declaration of Arbroath that established Scotland as an independent country for centuries. Discovery Point & the RRS Discovery that is located in the city of Dundee allows visitors to explore a ship that sailed to Antarctic under Captain Scott and the city has a strong maritime presence as it also hosts the HM Frigate Unicorn, the oldest British ship to still be afloat. Angus also has its fair share of castles and Glamis Castle is perhaps the most famous being a Category A listed building and dating back to the 1330’s with majestic buildings and grounds.

The rolling countryside offers a great chance to see some of the native wildlife in the area. There are numerous walking and cycling paths around Angus where you can witness birdlife, wild fowl and a variety of other animals that thrive on the natural surroundings. The Murton Trust has a diverse range of wildlife in its grounds and the Camperdown Wildlife Centre has brown bears, lynx, wolves and ring-tailed lemurs for more exotic tastes.

Getting out of the isolation in the countryside and into the bustling cities, Angus has one of the liveliest cities in Scotland. Dundee has great shopping facilities; an energetic nightlife and a great old Scottish city feel which is enhanced by the university there. For a more relaxed experience, visitors can go to the world famous town of St. Andrews with its university, small independent stores, pubs and coffee shops. Golf plays a major part of life in the area and aside from the majestic Old Course at St. Andrews that is known the world over; there are a multitude of challenging courses in the area for golfers of all abilities and experience levels.

The close proximity to the coast means that water sports are rife and adventurous tourists can windsurf, sail or go kite surfing while, for a more relaxed time, the River Tay has great angling and fishing spots on its banks.

The Angus region has so much culture and variety in it that it is a place that really needs to be experienced first-hand. Every town and village has something very different to offer from the heritage of its castles, to the diversity of its natural wildlife, through to the hustle and bustle of its major cities. For visitors there is something to suit all tastes in this region of Scotland that is as unique, as any other in the whole of the UK.
