Apple Tree Cottage sits peacefully on the edge of woodland just a short drive from Salisbury. With two bedrooms, the thatched cottage is spacious enough to appeal to a group or family of four, yet it retains a cosy, homely feel that also appeals to couples. From the original handmade bricks that have stood in place for hundreds of years, to the sloping thatched roof and rambling roses growing around the gate, the property is a country cottage fantasy brought to life.
Walk out of the front door and within just a few minutes you are in Bentley Wood - 1,500 acres of woodland that has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the species of butterfly that flourish there. It is particularly beautiful in April and May when thousands of delicately fragranced bluebells carpet the ground. There is no nicer way to start the day than with a wander through the woods in the company of butterflies, hares and roe deer.
Apple Tree Cottage is in the Wiltshire village of East Grimstead, around six miles (8 kilometres) from the beautiful cathedral city of Salisbury with plenty of shops to browse and places for a meal out. You are also close to the ancient sites of Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Avebury, and near to impressive National Trust properties like Mompesson House and Mottisfont.
There is no shortage of ideas for fun days out because within an hour of Apple Tree Cottage you can be in the New Forest with miles of tracks and trails to explore, picturesque villages and attractions including Beaulieu Motor Museum; Winchester; Portsmouth with its historic dockyard; Longleat for a safari adventure and Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World (sure to be a hit with the younger ones!).
