About Apple Tree Cottage

Apple Tree Cottage sits peacefully on the edge of woodland just a short drive from Salisbury. With two bedrooms, the thatched cottage is spacious enough to appeal to a group or family of four, yet it retains a cosy, homely feel that also appeals to couples. From the original handmade bricks that have stood in place for hundreds of years, to the sloping thatched roof and rambling roses growing around the gate, the property is a country cottage fantasy brought to life.

Walk out of the front door and within just a few minutes you are in Bentley Wood - 1,500 acres of woodland that has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the species of butterfly that flourish there. It is particularly beautiful in April and May when thousands of delicately fragranced bluebells carpet the ground. There is no nicer way to start the day than with a wander through the woods in the company of butterflies, hares and roe deer.

Apple Tree Cottage is in the Wiltshire village of East Grimstead, around six miles (8 kilometres) from the beautiful cathedral city of Salisbury with plenty of shops to browse and places for a meal out. You are also close to the ancient sites of Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Avebury, and near to impressive National Trust properties like Mompesson House and Mottisfont.

There is no shortage of ideas for fun days out because within an hour of Apple Tree Cottage you can be in the New Forest with miles of tracks and trails to explore, picturesque villages and attractions including Beaulieu Motor Museum; Winchester; Portsmouth with its historic dockyard; Longleat for a safari adventure and Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World (sure to be a hit with the younger ones!).

Location (Wiltshire)

Apple Tree Cottage has been sympathetically modernised to provide extremely comfortable accommodation for a family of four without losing any of its original warmth and charm.

Compact (and comfy) in terms of size but big in terms of character, accommodation comprises:

  • Combined sitting/dining room with both relaxed seating and dining table and chairs for up to four adults.
  • Digital television with Freeview channels and DVD player.
  • Family-friendly board games.
  • A choice of novels, guidebooks and maps of the area.
  • Fitted country-style kitchen with butler’s sink, fridge, oven and hob, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. The kitchen also has plates, crockery, cutlery, basic cooking equipment, some non-perishable ingredients and cleaning items.
  • Family bathroom with shower-over-bath, WC, and wash basin.

Upstairs are two cosy bedrooms under the eaves:

  • A lovely double bedroom decorated in restful colours with television.
  • A twin bedroom with two single beds and a snug atmosphere - the beds have Laura Ashley bed linen and guests are supplied with White Company towels. Both rooms have radiators as part of the property's central heating.

Outside: There is an enclosed garden with patio and garden furniture, and private parking for two cars.

Additional Information: WiFi is available throughout the property, and there is a full-oil central heating system. A travel cot and high chair are available on request. One dog is allowed by arrangement for a small charge. Non smoking. Short breaks are available. The owners live next door and are available to help with advice or directions to local attractions. There are low beams throughout the property. There is no shop in the village but both Tesco and Waitrose have branches in Salisbury and you can order online for delivery. The owners also provide a welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits upon arrival.
