Apple Tree Cottage sits peacefully on the edge of woodland just a short drive from Salisbury. With two bedrooms, this pretty thatched cottage is perfect for a couple but also spacious enough to appeal to a family of three or four. From the original handmade bricks that have stood in place for 500 years, to the sloping thatched roof and rambling roses growing around the gate, the property is a country cottage fantasy brought to life.
Walk out of the front door and within minutes you are in Bentley Wood, a 1400 acres bluebell woods that has been designated an SSSI due to the species of butterfly that flourish there. There is no nicer way to start the day than with a tranquil wander through the woods in the company of hares and roe deer.
Apple Tree Cottage is in the small Wiltshire village of East Grimstead, around six miles (eight kilometres) from medieval Salisbury with its stunning cathedral and great choice of shops to browse and places for a meal out. You are also close to Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Avebury, Old Sarum and Mottisfont (a National Trust property).
There is no shortage of option for day trips because within twenty minutes drive of Apple Tree Cottage you can be in the New Forest with miles of tracks and trails to explore. Also close by are attractions including Beaulieu Motor Museum; Winchester; Portsmouth with its historic dockyard; Longleat for a safari adventure and Paultons Park/Peppa Pig World (sure to be a hit with the younger ones). Bournemouth and other beautiful Dorset beaches are about an hour away.
Owner details:
Rosie Wilkinson joined Independent Cottages in April 2017
Apple Tree Cottage has been sympathetically modernised to provide extremely comfortable accommodation for a couple or small family of up to four without losing any of its original warmth and charm.
Compact (and comfy) in terms of size but big in terms of character, accommodation comprises:
Upstairs are two cosy bedrooms under the eaves:
Outside: There is an enclosed garden with patio and garden furniture, and private parking for two cars.
Additional Information: There are low beams throughout the property. WiFi is available throughout the property, and there is a full-oil central heating system. A travel cot and high chair are available on request. One large dog (or two small) allowed by arrangement (£20 extra charge). Non smoking. Short breaks are available. The cottage is in the grounds of the owner's house; they are available to help with advice or directions to local attractions. There is no shop in the village but both Tesco and Waitrose have branches in Salisbury and deliver. The Hook & Glove in Farley and the Silver Plough in Pitton are the nearest pubs. The owners also provide a welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk and a sweet treat upon arrival.
From Rosie, the owner: Apple Tree Cottage is in an idyllic spot next to the vast and magical Bentley Wood. If you are looking for a peaceful sanctuary for a few days, you will not be disappointed. Yet Salisbury with its cathedral, shops and restaurants is only 6 miles away.
