About Bluebell Cottage

Bluebell Cottage evokes the peace and serenity of a bygone era when the tides and the seasons dictated the pace of life, and people took the time to say "bore da" and check on each other. Just outside of Cardiff, in the sweet village of Wick on the Vale of Glamorgan Heritage Coast, this Grade II listed holiday cottage has been part of the scenery for centuries. It has everything you could hope for in a property of its age, including an inglenook fireplace with a cosy log burner, space for five people to sleep in two bedrooms and an enclosed garden for dogs and kids. You're within a short walk of the dog-friendly Star Inn and the Lamb and Flag pubs and only a 15-minute stroll from the historic Plough and Harrow in Monknash.

Wick is as friendly a village as you'll find. It is convenient for Cardiff, with its fantastic castle, museum, and scenic harbour, and it is also close to beaches like Llantwit Major, Southerndown and Ogmore-by-Sea. The coast faces the Bristol Channel and is a mix of sandy beaches and places like the Knap, where you can hunt for fossils on the pebble shoreline. Wild swimming here is a joy (despite somewhat brisk temperatures!), with Nash Point and Monknash being popular with experienced swimmers and Barry Island suitable for less confident mermaids.

The Vale of Glamorgan is perfect for a self-catering holiday as there is so much to see and do. As well as being a short drive or handy bus ride from Wales' capital, Cardiff, you're only five miles from chic boutiques and cafes in Cowbridge. Explore the mountains and waterfalls of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park or attractions that include St Fagan's open-air museum, Hensol Castle, the South Wales Air Museum, and the dinosaurs at Fonmon Castle. It's as easy to enjoy a romantic break complete with delicious food and long beach walks as it is to take the kids for a fun-filled family holiday. At the heart of it all, Bluebell Cottage waits for you with a warm welcome.

Bluebell Cottage dates from the 17th Century. Period features have been lovingly restored, and comforts updated in line with a quality 21st-century holiday home.

Downstairs:

  • Lots of natural light makes the open-plan downstairs layout welcoming at all times of the day. An inglenook fireplace with a log burner provides a cosy focal point, around which squashy sofas encourage you to sit down and relax.

  • You'll find it easy to cook in the well-equipped kitchen, which has an electric oven and stove, air fryer and a microwave. The washing machine is a handy inclusion, especially for guests who have children.

Upstairs:

  • At the rear of the cottage, the quiet master bedroom has a double bed and storage.
  • There are bunk beds and a single bed in the second bedroom to provide comfortable accommodation for three people.

Outside: The garden is enclosed for privacy and to allow children and pets freedom to play. A sunny lawn has a picnic table for eating outside in nice weather. There is parking for one car out the front of the cottage.
