About Hunters Cottage

Hunters Cottage is in the magnificent South Downs National Park. The Grade-II listed holiday cottage is in the picturesque village of Alciston, with period features that include an inglenook fireplace and exposed beams. It is cosy and welcoming, ideal for families, friends or couples it can sleep up to four people in three bedrooms over three floors. Hunters Cottage is very well-equipped for a self-catering holiday, but you are also within reasonable walking distance or short drive to many local pubs if you want a delicious pub meal.

Alciston is a historic village with a very traditional feel. Wander past thatched cottages to the medieval flint dove cote and Tithe barn, which, at 50 metres long, is one of the biggest of its kind. The village is in the Domesday Book, but settlements here date back far longer. There is a scenic 4.5-mile footpath from the cottage via Firle Beacon to Firle - one of many fantastic walks in the area. Other local routes include the South Downs Way, which passes a mile from the cottage. Cycling is another excellent way to enjoy the South Downs. Bikes are sometimes available on request.

One of the many benefits of this location is its proximity to the coast. Hunters Cottage is only a ten-minute drive from Cuckmere Haven, Seven Sisters, Beachy Head, and Birling Gap. Eastbourne and Brighton are close by, around half an hour by car. Other places for a day out include Lewes, Firle, Charleston and Alfriston. There is a host of vineyards within easy reach as are lovely cafes and restaurants, antique shops, gardens, zoo and nature reserves like the Seven Sisters Country Park. Plus the Glyndebourne opera house is right on your doorstep. Hunters cottage is close to a train stations to help you explore the area and beyond.

Hunters Cottage is available for self-catering holiday bookings from March to October, with short breaks possible depending on availability.
