About The Coach House

The Coach House is a lovely holiday cottage on a working farm near Alstonefield, close to the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border. The family-run Gateham Grange farm is at the base of Wetton Hill, and the surrounding landscape features some of the best footpaths in the Peak District. There is space for six people to sleep in two bedrooms with accommodation suitable for couples or families. It's a wonderfully picturesque spot and perfect for a walking, cycling and sightseeing holiday in any season. Children and two well-behaved dogs are welcome, which means the whole family can enjoy the scenery of the Peak District.

Alstonefield's location makes it perfect for a walking holiday. It's in the White Peak area, within easy reach of the Dove Valley and Manifold Valley, so there is a vast variety of trails to explore. The village green and pub, The George, is just over a mile away, with local footpaths leading to Hanson Grange and the top of Wetton Hill. You're also within easy reach of Thor's Cave and the traffic-free Manifold Way that goes for eight scenic miles between Waterhouses and Hulme End. Narrowdale, Beresford Dale, and Wolfscote Dale all beckon enticingly, filling your days with beauty and adventure.

Gateham Grange is a fantastic location for top attractions like Pooles Cavern, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Tissington Hall, Sudbury Hall, and the Museum of Childhood. Bakewell and Buxton are around 25 minutes away, each with a great choice of places to eat, drink and shop. There are historic steam railways, rivers and dams for fishing and sailing, and pretty gardens. The Heights of Abraham, Gulliver's World and Alton Towers are close enough for a day out. Locals love to celebrate the food, landscape, history and culture of the Peak District, so have a look at its calendar of events to see what is on while you're there.

The Coach House has been a part of the landscape for centuries, initially as a barn and more recently as a comfortable holiday home. It's a wonderful choice for a rural escape in any season.

Accommodation Comprises:

The Coach House is a period conversion with stone walls, oak beams, and fantastic views. Accommodation is over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Country-style kitchen/diner with traditional pine cabinets and a solid pine table with seating for six. It has home comforts like an electric oven and stove, microwave, fridge, and a washer/dryer. The views from the window behind the sink are so good you'll be fighting over who does the washing up! A door opens into the courtyard.
  • Relax in the living room on one of two leather sofas, watching something on the TV, reading, playing a board game, or looking at maps to plan the next day's adventure. Leave the patio doors open for the warm breeze in summer and put the electric fire on in cold weather.
  • Cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with a carved bed, bedside tables with reading lights, a vanity unit with a handbasin and a heated towel rail, and views over the farmyard.
  • Second bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds, a chest of drawers and a beautifully carved wardrobe. The bunk beds can accommodate adults but are better suited to children and teens.
  • Family bathroom with a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The rear garden has garden views and panoramic views from the terrace. There's parking close to the door.

Additional Information: The cottage is on a working farm where the owners raise sheep and cattle. Heating and bed linen are included in the cost but other electricity is on a pay-as-you-go meter. Guests to bring towels. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement. The owners take short breaks out of season and at short notice any time of year – please email or ring to enquire regarding availability and price.

Please note there is no WiFi at the Coach House. However there is WiFi at the farmhouse and if you wish as you drive around the back of the farmhouse to go out for the day you are welcome to sit in your car and use the internet there to plan your trips or check your emails etc. You should not be disturbed as the owners have other drives to use for themselves and farming activities. There is a bench there for you to use (weather permitting) while you are using the WiFi.
