Dolly Cottage is a delightful holiday home in Buxton, offering guests boutique self-catering Peak District accommodation. It's wonderfully warm and welcoming, combining home comforts with stylish touches in a location that's central yet remarkably peaceful. There is space for three people to sleep in two bedrooms (one double and one single), all within a short walk of Buxton's stylish shops, cafes, boutiques, and friendly pubs like the quirkily-named Cheshire Cheese. Whether you're escaping for a relaxing spa weekend or staying for a week to explore the stunning scenery, Dolly Cottage provides the perfect place for couples, small families or solo travellers.
Buxton was built to impress. Whereas Bakewell's lanes are quaint and charming, Buxton's grand Crescent and Serpentine Walks were designed as places where well-heeled members of Georgian and Victorian society could take the waters for their health but, more importantly, see and be seen. Despite its elegance, Buxton is far from intimidating. Many businesses are locally owned and run, greeting residents and visitors with warmth and grace, adding to the enjoyment of a day of shopping, sightseeing and dining out. Those interested in the town's history can follow the waymarked town tours or book the services of a guide for a walking tour that will share many of the secrets behind the grand facades. Music lovers should check the programme of events at the Buxton Opera House before your stay - tickets to some performances are extremely popular and sell quickly. There are often talks about local history in the Pump Room, specialist fairs in the Pavilion Gardens, and twice-weekly markets every Tuesday and Saturday in Market Place.
The only location in the Peak District more magnificent than Buxton is Chatsworth House, around 15 miles or half an hour's drive from Dolly Cottage. It's best to allow a whole day here, taking time to admire the incredible collections inside the house and the breathtaking gardens, parklands, and famous gilded windows and fountains outside. Other local attractions to include in your itinerary are Poole's Cavern (underground, so an excellent choice for inclement weather), Go Ape, Buxton Raceway, and Bakewell's busy Monday market. Golf, fishing, walking and cycling are all hugely popular and widely available, with something to appeal to all abilities.
Dolly Cottage is as cute as a button without feeling twee or cliched. It is a lovely way to experience some of the history of this beautiful town while still enjoying 21st Century comforts like fast WiFi and efficient central heating.
