Castle Cliffe is a substantial Victorian house in the charming hamlet of Monsal Head, a stone's throw from the RIver Wye and with views of the famous Monsal Head Viaduct. Just a few minutes walk from the Monsal Head Hotel or the Packhorse Inn in Little Longstone, and just three miles from Bakewell, it is ideal for a group self-catering holiday. Whether you're planning a holiday with your walking group, a family reunion, a trip with friends or a memorable hen weekend, Castle Cliffe comfortably accommodates up to 22 guests in its nine spacious bedrooms. Seven rooms have en-suite baths or shower and the other two share a luxurious bathroom. The well-equipped kitchen features a gas-fired AGA and a regular electric oven, perfect for cooking up feasts for everyone. The dining room seats 22, comfortably accommodating your entire party. After a day exploring, relax in the lounge with a log burner or cosy up in the snug with an open fire. Outside, there’s a walled garden with a patio area, BBQ, and seating. Beyond is a large paddock where kids (and adults) can let off steam. Wander through the newly planted copse or watch the swifts swooping over the wildflower meadow. It’s a wonderful place to sit and chill out.
Castle Cliffe is in a prime spot for getting out and about in the Peaks. Monsal Head offers breathtaking views over the Monsal Dale, and there are numerous walks and cycle routes starting right from the house. The Monsal Trail is perfect for traffic-free cycling or walking, with stunning scenery like the Headstone Viaduct, Water-cum-Jolly and Millers Dale. Bakewell, just a short drive away, is a must-visit for its famous Bakewell Pudding and a mix of shops, cafes, and pubs. Nearby, you’ll find the impressive Chatsworth House and the historic Haddon Hall, both well worth a visit. The village of Eyam, with its unique plague history, and the caverns of Castleton are also close by. There’s loads to see and do, from outdoor activities to delving into local history.
Beyond Monsal Head and Bakewell, the Peak District is packed with adventures. This national park is an absolute gem for outdoor lovers, with stunning landscapes and endless trails for walking and cycling. Head to Buxton for its lovely gardens and historic Opera House. The Peak District’s diverse areas offer everything from the dramatic moorlands of the Dark Peak to the tranquil dales of the White Peak. Explore the quaint villages and market towns scattered throughout the region, each with its own charm. Whether you’re into nature, history, or just want to soak up some local culture, the Peak District is a fantastic destination for a group holiday.
So why wait? Book your stay at Castle Cliffe and sample the many delights the Peak District offers.
